Your "Dream" Carry Gun

Hmm...Dream carry gun...

OK. Here goes:

It would be a 4'' barreled 1911-A1 with a cone barrel, and the end of the coned barrel would be a counterweight, contoured just like the slide, so that the total length of the gun wasn't longer than a standard gun. Kind of like one of the early Clark pin gun models. NOT a compensator. They're too loud. Been there, done that.

Wilson Ultralight hammer/sear
Ed Brown Memory Groove beavertail grip safety
Standard thumb safety, de-horned for carry
Bo-Mar sights, low mounted into the slide
Stippled front strap on the frame
Kingwood checkered grips
Black polymer finish on all parts
Metalform 7-rd magazines with Pachmayr rubber bump pads
A Kramer Leather carry rig - holster/belt/mag pouch
A Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig for other carry use too.

***Built by...ME*** I don't let other people build my 1911's !

I have it already. I have a number of Colt 1911's including my Grandfathers Commercial 1911(not A-1). My go to gun off the farm is a Colt Defender that I have had for the last 3 yrs and feeds anything I give it including lead swc's. Light - easy to carry in CCW mode and I use a El Paso Saddlery cross draw holster as I am left handed and can not get to a strong side holster while in the drivers seat of a car. I never thought I would like a pistol of this size so much. Then again this is just me!

I'm going to get a LOT of nasty looks for this, but my dream CCW would have to be...

A single-stack 10mm, striker or internal hammer fired, small (think Kahr or Kel-Tec small), 5 or more shots. That would be.... fierce.

Colt Lightweight Commander in .38 Super, with a properly supported barrel.

Coarse checkering on frontstrap

Long, flat faced trigger, breaking at 3.5 #.

Color contrasting 3 dot tritium sights. Probably green rears and red front. I'm partial to the low profile design which overhangs the rear of the slide.

Mildly extended controls. Not GI, but not the Moby Dick flippers that lots of guns come with, either.

No front serrations.

No FLGR.

An old school welded-type mag well. No S&A, no tech well hangning off the bottom, just an enlarged opening, adding no length.

Taurus pt1911 grips, or similar. Slim, but not too slim, and the checkering is SHARP.

Sounds pretty awesome to me! As long as you can hold on to it. :) We just need more 10mm defense loads out there, and guns too I guess.

Unfortunately, NOTHING even close to what I want exists. I may well have to make a one-off example, but it'd have to be pretty heavy (thinking solid 4140....)

My dream carry gun:

A Colt 1911A1 set up just the way I like it.

Problem:

I haven't decided exactly what "just the way I like it" is yet.

My DREAM carry gun:

Larry Seecamp once posted over on the Seecamp forum that he thought he could make a 9mm smaller than the Rohrbaugh R9. Ever since I read that a Seecamp LWS-9 pocket pistol has been my dream gun. I hope one day that dream comes true!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not, my M&P .40c with CTC grips meets all my criteria for the perfect carry gun. That said, I wish there was a S&W 340 with 6 rounds of .357 in Case Color finish with sweet wood or ivory grips and night sights. Oh yeah, a Colt Python would be incredible, too.

A Bob Rogers custom 5" 1911 with the best internals available and entirely beveled for carry in a flat (matte) black finish and 10 verified magazines.
