Your favorite .22 Handgun to carry in the field all day?

Another High Standard Sentinel fan. My current one is a R-107 Model from about 1974 I believe.

What's not to like? Nine shots, D/A-S/A, alloy frame, 4" barrel, semi-fixed (drift adjustable for windage) sights. About the size of a Smith & Wesson K-frame it fits in an Uncle Mikes No 2 Sidekick holster. Light as a feather to carry while bumming around in the woods. I'm an old man. That's important these days.

S&W Mod. 63. I had some work done on the trigger and it is a joy to shoot.

S&W, 5.5" barrel Model 41- I bought this gun with competing in mind. That never happened and it became a semi-safe queen since I did take it to the range to target practice with occasionally.

About ten years ago I decided since I enjoyed it so much, I would use it as my plinking/hunting .22 in the woods. I keep it in a sturdy holster with a flap to protect it from abuse. So far so good... and you know, if I do happen to scratch it I'll let my heirs worry about it.

Another second for the (cheapo-pot metal) Phoenix HP22.

Always goes bang and is accurate. Trust it more than that Beretta Bobcat I used to have.

I wish Phoenix offered this little pistol in stainless.

Smith and Wesson Model 63 stainless revolver with 4" barrel. I love Ruger Mark II's too, but the model 63 is better suited to carry.

Currently, a Ruger Mark II 22/45 stainless. Shoots straighter than I can and is not picky about ammo at all.

After looking for quite a while, I recently picked up an Astra Cadix 9 shot revolver. Since I'm a wheel gun guy at heart, this one may take over the "trail .22" spot.

My favorite is a PMR 22mag if I ever manage to find one at a decent price. For now it's a Ruger 22/45 lite which is very acurate, reliable and doesn't weigh much. I had an old Bearcat that I tried to like but my hands are too big to shoot it comfortably plus it was such a nice example that I didn't want damage it carrrying in the woods in bad weather.

Only 1 vote for the Ruger Bearcat? Here is vote #2.
After replacing the mainspring for a Wolff lower power job, I carry a Bearcat whenever I'm in the woods. The lower power hammer spring pretty much eliminates vertical stringing common with the heavy Ruger spring. I guess I had to also add a modified T-grip to make it shootable.
It's has taken grouse, rabbits and squirrels for the pot without much fuss and rides cross-draw on my belt (under my back pack belt; as most of the time, I'm hiking) or on my lumbar pack when I'm big game hunting.
The S&W .22 kit gun is a pretty sweet carry as well.

I recently bought a Browning 1911-A1 22 and it is growing on me.

This will be my very next firearm purchase; this is the .22LR I'd like to carry in the field all day. It's a near-perfect 85%-scale replica (except for the full-size trigger guard) of the typical G.I. 1911, and they are awesome. Alloy frame, 10-round mags, accurate.

They're available in two sizes: what would be (in full-scale) the standard 5" barrel, and a Commander-sized scale. I want both!

I've handled both available sizes and simply cannot choose between the two... but the "full"-size will be the first purchase (only one at a time here in sunny Kaliphr0nia)

The only other "carry in the field/countryside" .22 for me would be a Ruger Single Six in both .22LR with an extra cylinder for .22 magnum...

I like my wife's S&W 317 kit gun. Incredibly lightweight and accurate. 8 shot is nice. Works great with the super-colibri primer only ammo too.

I don't like cleaning it though: for some reason the chambers get crudded up nastier than they should, to where I use a cordless drill to spin the brush.

Glock 34 with an Advantage Arms .22lr conversion. Very accurate and very, very light.

The Browning 1911-22 is a nice pistol, but the Glock has much better sights and trigger.

I like my wife's S&W 317 kit gun.

Yup. One of the few guns I let get away that I regularly regret parting with. Still have my eyes open for a good deal on a pre-lock 3-inch specimen with target (not hi-viz) sights. The rosewood grip would be nice, too.

Favorite .22 HG all day carry

The Browning 1911-A1 .22 and Ruger Single Six are both good guns, but cost 2 1/2 times and more than the Heritage Rough Rider .22LR/Mag combo.

Easy.

Taurus M941 8 shot 22 Magnum revolver with 3" barrel. This gun is very accurate with Speer Gold Dot ammo.

I carry it in $15.00 nylon holster that is both very secure and durable . The gun sits so lowthat the thumb strap completely covers the hammer and back of the frame so it acts like a half-flap preventing dirt and debris from getting into the action.

The only two .22 gun I have are a Colt diamondback and a Ruger semi auto. The Colt is a 6" while the Ruger is a 4". I'll carry either any chance I get...I just rarely get to be "in the field" any more. I kind of miss that.
