If you are talking big game as in moose and above I use the Swift A-Frame. It is an older design but I dont think there is anything wrong with it.

If you are talking what Americans typically refer to as big game such as whitetail deer then core-lokt is just fine.

Just so you know you are going to get a lot of answers that are not part of your choices above. Too many different bullets out there in too many different weights that for all intents and purposes do the same job equally well.

earthgoat2 - Those are just the more popular ones I see out there and I tried to get at least one in for just about every maker. I know I left of berger, and speer, and several others.

And yes, you assumed correctly that I meant lower 48. Those bullets should be constructed to handle pretty much anything you'll find over here, and they come in a large enough variety of calibers that you can get one or the other in pretty much anything that goes boom. Might not see them in the 35 Whelens out there or the 45-70's, but I have a suspicion that those aren't the more common hunting calibers (they may be regionally but not nationally). Hell, the barnes tsx comes in everything from .223 - .583 (WTH shoots that beasty... I thought the t-rex was a .577).

I like Nosler btips and Gamekings for deer and would probably use Partitions or Accubonds if I ever get a chance to hunt anything bigger. The first two that I have mentioned have always been very accurate for me and deadly enough.

I'll use a barnes in .308 for big hogs if I'm hunting them or Nosler partition in my 7 mag shoots well for bigger animals, but generally, I shoot either the Nosler BT in my .308 (it's accurate) or a Sierra Game King in .257Roberts or 7mm Rem Mag. Sierra is accurate. Accuracy is important.

I like to use Hornady Interbond for larger game or barnes. For deer sized game i use Hornady Interlock SST.

elk and smaller get hornady interlocks 90% of the time, sierra gamekings 9%, and barnes tsx 1%... or something like that. anyway, i use a lot of hornady, some sierra, and once in awhile a barnes.

I think the Nosler Partition is the best all around, but I have heard great things about the Nosler Accubond, offering the accuracy of the Ballistic Tip with the penetration of the Partition. If they weren't so darn expensive I would try some :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Berger VLD and Sierra Match Kings for me as they are the most accurate. With slower impact velocity they do an excellent job on white tail and mule deer.

stinger, there is NO game in North America that requires that bullet. Like has been said in your thread, stick with a 165-180 grain bullet out of your rifle and you will be fine for everything but stopping a grizzly bear charging (and you still could do a lot worse). That sierra 165, with proper shot placement will stop anything and everything on this earth, as will the interbond, the nosler partition, the barnes tsx, and the bergers bullets mentioned in this thread at 180 grains or less in weight.

I have been very lucky in that most of my firearms like Hornady bullets. For my rifle loads, I use the Interbonds. They have been the most accurate and work extremely well on hogs and deer.

The 165 to 180 grains are also the most accurate in 30.06?

That depends on your rifle. One remington 700 bdl will like 180 gr bullets, another will shoot better with 150 gr bullets. The only way to know is to buy a box of each and go shoot it. If you don't have a 1 in 10 twist barrel, I'd stay away from anything over 180 grains as your barrel will have difficulty stabilizing the bullet.

i voted for the interlock.... not the swish interbond or sst. i have used it in 100 gr 243 win at moderate deliver speeds MV of around 2900 fps. it holds together well and is accurate. it is a good bullet. i have used it on all deer found in the UK up to reds.

however in my 7mm08 i have used sierras prohunter, also a good bullet, maybe a little more frangible when driven fast. speers hotcor in 130 and 145. both are good, in 130 the 7mm08 is close velocity wise to the 270 with 130s. but it is a solid bullet that stays together well, gives decent accuracy and kills well, again used on all deer in the uk.

in 30-06 i have used speers 150 gr hot core, also an excellant bullet. sierra 150 gameking i found a little frangible when driven very fast. I am now using sierra 165 gamekings. they are loaded fast... but i use them when i am shooting long distances over open fields. at 250 yard they are really coming into thier own. they have sufficient energy to knock stuff over dead at that range (plus plenty further should i need it).

i use the 7mm08 for woodland stalking (still hunting you guys call it)

its horses for courses

Stinger 327...Remington Core-Lokt rifle bullets are what everone who manufactures bullets are striving to attain. Core-lokts are the "holy Grail" or "bench mark" and have been sense they first appeared. They are just plain hard to beat in any weight...If you load them and get good accuracy. Absolutely...Go for it.
