Your Gatling Gun payment....

You'd want to see entire flocks of ducks slaughtered in one shot?

I had a long explanation typed out, was fixing to tap “Post Reply” and then erased it. If it has to be explained to you what sarcasm, tongue in cheek, humor or irony means then you wouldn’t get my explanation so I’m okay with you believing I’m cruel and bloodthirsty, and through guilt by association so are the people who liked the post.

captain awesome hit the nail on the head.

I really would have liked to see a punt gun in action on Chesapeake Bay back in the day.

In what way was this in any stretch of the imagination sarcasm, tongue in cheek, humor, or irony? It's a flat statement that you wanted to see the punt gun in use back when the only thing they were used for was killing entire flocks of waterfowl for the market.

Here's a you tube video of one being fired.

Geeze, I’ll splain it to you. Punts should be against the law for hunting and I’m glad they are. I don’t condone their use for that purpose and I’m sure the sight of hundreds of dead and mangled birds would turn my stomach.

A punt gun is big, brutal and dangerous to the operator from my understanding. To appreciate just how monstrous they are I’d like to see one fired in person. So why not see one fired in the setting where they did the most damage and received their most notoriety? Seeing one fired before sunrise in a vintage boat on Chesapeake Bay would enhance the experience. I never said I wanted to see a bunch of ducks and geese killed, I said I wanted to see a punt gun in action. As an analogy, stating I want to see a .470 Nitro in action doesn’t mean I want to see an elephant killed. It means I’d like to fire or see someone fire a double rifle in .470 Nitro to obtain a true understanding of the experience. I must admit though that captain awesome has a point.

The the gun in the video looks like a toy. If you want to show how destructive a punt gun is then show a real one.

I’ll never forget, many years ago my Father and I were shooting sparrows out of the sycamores in front of the house from the backyard. 23 rounds of #8 & 7.5 killed 122 birds. He would have used a punt gun if we had one. Wound up cutting the trees down instead...

You’re a bad boy jmorris.:)

IIRC, on R. Lee Ermy's (RIP) old TV show, he had a guy on who shot a punt gun at a huge reactive target of some kind, and it was devastating...very cool.

IF it's legal, and
IF it's sustainable / good management, and
IF all the meat is eaten,
Then I too would love to see a punt gun in action against a flock of waterfowl. Under those circumstances, I don't see how that would be different from any other type of hunting.

If I was a Wounded Knee Reenactor the Gatling gun would hold some appeal to me I’m sure, but I’m not, never have been and never will be.
