Mossberg 590 cruiser ready (hammer down, just rack it and go) standing right next to my nightstand. 8-shot mag with 5 on the stock.

Got an AR-15 in the gun cabinet in my closet too. Unloaded at the moment but with loaded mags also in the cabinet.

No alarm (haven't spent the $$) and no dogs (hate dogs) but the house is reasonably secure. All entrances are secure enough that you could not enter quietly. You'd either have to smash a window or kick down a door. All windows have keyed locks and all doors have latches.

Dope

Most of my HD ready guns have a loaded magazine and empty chamber.
Those guns are equipped with Streamlight TLR-2 laser/lights. At night I carry one around when checking outside or doing chores, so I'd rather not have a round in the chamber.

The guns by the doors, except the pump shotguns, have a round in the chamber.

I am somewhere in between the 1st and second choice. 2 Loaded guns within reach one with a Tactical light and a flashlight next next to the nightstand. Along with 3 guardcats and a very large very scary looking Khukuri that I am quite well versed in using.

My wife thinks I am paranoid, personally I think I am underarmed :p

position3: both the 1911 and the 12ga. High-Standard police are loade mags and empty chambers. I define a warning shot as an action being racked nothing more.

I keep a S&W 586-3 loaded with 38 spl
158gr LSWCHP +P's in a holster that's
attached to my night stand.I have my
Mossberg 500A loaded with 5 Federal
00 buckshot shells with the chamber
empty next to the bed.

I keep my cell phone in the bedroom
as my plan is to call 911 and wait in
the bedroom until they arrive or the
intruder opens the door.I also have a
14lb sleigh hammer in the bedroom,if
there's a fire and we can't make it
to the front door hopefully i can bust
thru the brick wall.

Locked doors.
Barking weiner dog. (god I miss my big tough guard dog, RIP)
Loaded .44 Magnum within reach of my bed. Cell phone charging next to it.

Just try to break in, I dare you. I could use the target practice. ;)

My Sig stays loaded with a round in the chamber but is in the bedroom when I"m at home even though our golden retrievers don't make very good watch dogs.

My 12ga is loaded in the locked bedroom closet up stairs, that said I have 4 dogs, A German shepherd /Rotty mix 150lbs,2 German Shepherd's 70lbs ea and a Shepherd /Dobie mix. I have a Louisville Slugger near the front door and knives tucked in different areas out of reach of the kids. I live in a good neighborhood but we border Elizabeth, anyone from NJ knows thats not good. I wish I had Loop's problems

I feel your pain. I moved away from NJ in 1998 and came to NC.

I used to keep my 1200 fully loaded on a couple pegs that were on the inside of my closet, just above the door. Had a 25 round bando hanging with it as well.

Sig 228 at the head of the bed, condition three, with a surefire.
Kimber .45 three steps away from the bed, condition three, with a surefire.
Colt .45 two steps away from that, condition three, with a surefire.
All of the weapons are in a direction I can move but not an intruder - unless he goes through me.
Each weapon has two mags with it.
Cell phone stays in my pocket until bedtime when it goes next to the Sig.
Half German Shepard/half wild dog never leaves my side.

my 1911 is within reach from my bed. its got a round in the chamber with the hammer down. if something is going on and i may need it i will go to cocked and locked.

You left out carried.

I assumed when I said "within reach" it was inclusive.

I could be wrong however, if one carries in an ankle holster, and due to obesity, is unable to reach the gun, however, I would suggest a different form of carry if this is one's situation.
