Now let's imagine you could design a shotgun... what would your perfect shotgun be?

For me, it would have a Benelli pistol grip and synthetic stock. I love the thick, chunky Benelli pistol grip. The Benelli pistol grip + stock is the most sturdy, rugged combo out there IMO.

As far as sighting, it would have ghost ring sights.

Barrell length would be 18.5 inches or 20 inches.

Ability to hold 2.75 and 3 inch shells. 7 round capacity in tube.

It would be a pump action shotgun. The forend would be something ribbed and of simple design like the one on a 870 police or Mossberg 500.

Trigger guard would be a simple loop.

Safety would be on the side.

------------------

In short, basically a Benelli Supernova with a more normal looking forend and trigger guard + larger tube capacity. :p

a free one because budget is something im low on right now.

Seriously... Low recoil, Low weight (ignore the oxymoron please), Semi-Auto (low effort), 12-gauge, 3" chamber (to prevent me from trying anything to stupid with 3 1/2"), Bead Sight.

28 gauge, 30" perfectly balanced barrels, single selective detachable trigger, leaf springs, side locks, fixed chokes for targets, exhibition walnut, engraving by one of the Italian Bulino Masters, nothing plastic, not even the carry case

'97 Winchester, 'Trench' or 'Riot' model...12 Gauge of course...would be my 'ideal'.

In a repeater, most any 870.

In a two shot competition gun,a Beretta 686 White Onyx sporter with Ballistic Specialties extended chokes and a Syms pad.

IOW, I HAVE my ideal shotguns and it's my job to make them work.

All around hunting shotgun: 20 gauge SxS. Straight grip stock. Splinter forend. Extractors. Double triggers. Automatic safety. Blueprinted to my body. Sidelock with case hardened locks. Minimal engraving but enough to accent the tasteful styling. English walnut stock and forend. Checkered butt. (I almost have this gun, but not quite)

Autoloader: Browning Light 20 with a straight grip stock. (yesss, I do have this one)

HD/Tactical: Mossberg 590A1 w/ 18" barrel and bead sight. Normal stock. Normal capacity. No sidesaddles or tac lights. Nothing else needed except ammo. (dont have it and probably never will, unneeded)

An 870 receiver with the slide release where the Mossberg's is, safety in standard 870 location, 18.5" marinecote barrel and finish, mesa tactical sidesaddle, polymer forend and full polymer buttstock. Probably the most impervious setup in my opinion

I like break barrel singles. 20" barrels with chokes are about as perfect as I could want. I like good wood on a gun in my den, but I like fiberglass or plastic on a gun in the woods. I have been known to add a few ounces of lead to an overly light stock. I have more of them then I care to admit.

Singles are great because I can use my replacement barrels and chamber adapters as much as I like. There's very little out there that I plan to ever shoot that I can't do with a single.

For defense here at home, I prefer Mossberg 500-based guns over most anything else. Doesn't have to be fancy. One of my fav shooting guns is a Mav 88 with the parkerizing mostly worn off. I assembled it out of the parts boxes in my shop for my nephew to take camping a couple of years ago. The stock was stripped ages ago to be refinished but the wood just didn't match so I restripped it and tossed it into a box. He stained the two parts dark brown and oil-soaked them. Perfect mil-spec look. Added a beat-up parkerized heatshield to the barrel to hide some pitting. It has too much character to ever change.

I don't give a rat's heiny where a Mossberg's or a Remington's safety is on a defense gun. I've got guns with no safeties at all. Mossbergs and Mav's are easy to remove. If you're ready to shoot, you have a shell chambered. If you aren't planning to shoot, you don't. Nothing complicated about that.

Benelli already designed, built, and sold me an M2 Tactical. They read my mind perfectly.

Now I'm going to purchase a longer barrel for hunting and I'll be set.

My Mossy 500A 20in barrel and my set of chokes for it works well enough for anything that I need to do with a shotgun.

No complaints there

If someone built a Stevens 620 clone, but with twin action bars, I'd be happy to have one. Actually, I'd get several of them.
