Hello all. Initially I was leaning towards buying a glock 26 and wait for the HK 45 to become available (will the HK 45 be out in CA w/o the magazine disconnect?). Fellow members wisely advised me that it may not be the best idea to purchase a subcompact for my first pistol. I have shot about 500 rounds with various handguns (all .45 or 9mm) that I rented at the shooting range, but none were subcompact. Since I am planning on purchasing the HK 45, I am now leaning towards a 9mm also manufactured by HK. What are the main differences that I should consider between the USP 9mm and the P2000 9mm? I have also heard that new models of HK pistols are coming to market in the future, but do not want a pistol that has a magazine disconnect. Thanks all for your help.

First Gun

It seems like you have done a little research and found a few guns you like. I have never shot an HK so I can't help you on those. I don't think you can go wrong with the Glock though. I carry one on duty everyday and love it. The only thing that I can say is never own a gun with a magazine disconnect. This is by far the stupidest @#$&ing thing that has ever been put on a gun. Whoever invented it must have been a polititian who had never fired a gun in his life.

The P2000 is fully ambidextrous, which may be useful if you're a lefty. Also, the P2000 has interchangable backstraps I believe.

Probably can't go wrong with either one. I owned a USP compact in 9mm until I gave it to my father. Of all the USPs I've owned (2 fullsize .45 and 1 fullsize 9mm), the 9mm compact was my favorite.

?

Huh?

I've read through the item descriptions on the HK website (currently down for maintenance), and still could not fugure out if the P2000 line of pistols are DAO. They say that it has a constant level of trigger pull, but has a decocker on the rear side of the pistol. Can someone please explain this? So all new guns that are to be introduced (except for those that made it on the list prior to the deadline) will have a magazine disconnect feature, correct? Are there any pistols yet to be introduced into the market that has made the list on time, and thus will not have the magazine disconnect? I like the idea of a new model pistol, but would not like it if it has the disconnect. Thanks all.

Sorry

Sorry Daysleep, I misread the post. I see what you are saying now. Honest mistake.

The usp compact might do you better if you are getting familiarized with the hk because of it's external safety that it offer's. The p2000 does not have that. I prefer the way the p2000 feel's but the safety of the uspc might be your better choice right now. Also remember later on you can never go wrong with a glock.

The subcompacts, not compacts right, can sometimes flip a little on you. It really depends on your grip and the size of you hand. Also, the smaller size and the loss of weight over the larger compacts and full sizes, makes it seem to fire more abruptly in your hand. Basically a harder recoil effect.

I would seriously recommend trying out a subcomact before buying one. You may find out it doesn't fit your hand or it may.
