I just gotta name two

All Quiet on the Western Front

and

To Hell and Back the Odie Murphy story

Anything with Lee Marvin. He was the most convincing actor to play in WWII movies.

Pearl harbor...hahahahahaha:barf: :barf: :barf:

jsalcedo got it right...

Lee Marvin was the man. And that is why despite the urge to go with Private Ryan, I need to pick The Big Red 1 Maybe it's because I saw it first, or...who knows. I think the scene that does it for me in Big Red One is when the come across the concentration camp. Sad Stuff.

cslinger, if you like Where Eagles Dare, you have to read the book...I liked it way better than the movie. It's just kind of scary seeing Clint that young.

I can't remember the name right now but the movie starred Henry Fonda and DanO from Hawaii 5 O among others and was about a German tank offensive chasing the Americans in headlong retreat while looking for gas for their tanks.

That along with
The Longest Day and The Green Berets are great movies

but my new favorite is The Red Badge of Courage, with Audy Murphy not John Boy

A Martini-Henry .455 Boxer Miracle

I noticed that no one had mentioned "Zulu", my all time favorite. Most of the movies listed are more recent than this one, maybe I'm just old. If you haven't seen this film, rent it. It'll be a real treat.

I Can't Believe It!

:what:
This list went this far without one mention of "Patton"!
My very favorite of all time.
Who else feels the same as I do about men who carry pearl handled pistols?
With a nod to "Kelly's Heroes" as the runner up.

Come to think of it, any time I'm in a gun shop and somebody's looking at a Thompson subgun, I have to ask 'em "have you seen Kelly's Heroes"? Invariably, they'll say "at least 15 times".:D

Best line from Patton: (to the effect that) "only a New Orleans pimp would carry a pearl handle pistol".

Battle of the Bulge? I remember Telly Savalas and Henry Fonda .

I'd go with

Paths of Glory, or

They Were Expendable.

+1 for Zulu.

"An a baynit w'some guts be'ind it."
BTW; Colour Sergeant Bourne's quote from the Psalms is from Psalm 46, verses 9-11.

Joab, the movie you're thinking of is "Battle of the Bulge".

Also, Pattons pistols had IVORY grips. In the General's own words; "Only a New Orleans pimp would carry a pearl handled pistol!" (Mustanger posted while I was still typing this).

Dr. Strangelove, it shows the absurdity of war and what would really happen if MAD ever came 'round. But the threat for MAD is gone, at least from the public's eye. People don't even realize that China has nukes, and half a dozen other countries that don't like us do too.

Good Ones

I dont know if I have a favorite, but I used to watch TNT when I was younger roughly 10 or 12 when they had 48 hours of war movies. Id stay up until I couldnt keep my eyes open watching war movies.

I think one of the most accurately portrayed stories might be The Lost Battalion about WWI its one of my favorites. Sand Pebbles was kind of different, but also good. The Great Escape and Bridge Over the River Kwai are also 2 of my favorites. Just some of the more often over looked ones.

chopinbloc, what's the other code they use? Something like "The thin man has a moustache". I just watched that movie and can't remember.
BTW, my favorite is Black Hawk Down.

Darn, how could I forget Gettysburg and Gods and Generals? I'd have to rate those my 1 and 2, with LD 3rd.

My mind is going on me....

AQOTWF is amazing and awesome too. I can't pick just one, there are too many.
