Thanks y'all. MC...I have some 180 gr. Nosler soft point boat tails and I already have the 165 gr. Gameking HPs. I also happen to have some 130 gr flat base pointed soft points. Also some 168 gr Matchkings but following Pato's advice I'm not going to have her hunt with those. I shot a doe one time with one in the shoulder at under 50 yards and I poured her out like cherry pie filling when I dressed her but there were small pieces of lead dispersed all through her off side. Any thoughts also on those 180 gr. Noslers since the Noslers were brought up or the 130 gr. Hornady's? I like a longer bullet for several reasons but considering Sage's advice my thoughts about the solid hog may be unfounded and a hammer may not be neccesary to put one down. All of the hogs I've seen taken were solid critters but they were also shot by others just behind the ear. Not a shot I want her to take just yet. That leads to a war story of a big hog waking up and wanting out of a friend's Blazer while he was driving.Bexar, the 165 Sierra bullet should work fine. A hog is not a particularly dense animal and a bullet will fly through like it is going through butter. It amazes me that when I shoot a deer I can always hear the bullet hit with a big whap but when I shoot a hog I seldom hear the bullet make any kind of noise. A better choice for both deer and hogs would be the Sierra 150 grain game king with about 43 grains of IMR 4064. I don't know the reason but that load has less felt recoil than most others and would work for your daughter. Tell her on a hog to follow the front leg up with her eye and shoot directly over the front leg about half way up the body.
