Also the browning M2 50 cal machine gun, and a mark 19 (full auto grenade launcher). Fired some cool stuff in the Marines!!!

I'd like to pop off a few rounds from a 40mm Bofors.

But, the chance of that is Slim and none and Slim just left town.

More realistically, any mounted heavy machine gun. M2 50 BMG would be top of the list, but a 30 caliber would check the box on the bucket list.

Guns I would not pass up an opportunity to shoot but won't feel unfulfilled if it does not happen...

Broom Handle Mauser
WWII Thompson M1
Browning BAR
Johnson Model 1941
Colt SAA
Krieghoff K-80 Skeet shotgun
Trap door Springfield
30-40 Krag
303 British Enfield
Webley-Fosbery revolver

There are probably a few others.

I have an M1 Garand in my gun safe, so I have satisfied the urge to shoot one of them.:)

I would love Love LOVE to shoot an M2 browning!

Ive shot a bunch of cool stuff, Garand, m1 carbine, broomhandle, thompson, AK, FAL, HK91, a bolt action 50BMG, PPSH41, p08, AK, 1911, various blackpowders, and other stuff Im not finding at the top of my head....

But the one I always go back to, the one that really draws a grin on my face;
bushmaster arm pistol.

105mm smooth bore on a Leopard. A .50 BMG isn't that big of a deal. The .30-06 Vickers I shot at Second Chance was more impressive. Do not assault MG nests frontally! snicker.
If you go to a CMP J.C. Garand Match your M1 dream will very likely come true. Match shooters tend to bend over backwards to help a new guy, even to the point of letting 'em shoot their rifles. I think there are 'Loaner's' anyway though.

Seeing all these people post about M1 Garands, makes me feel like I'm definitely missing out on something. Never held one or know anyone who owns one

If you haven't shot at a clay pigeon with an over under shotgun, you are depriving yourself of a heck of a good time. At minimum everyone needs to shoot some clays with some sort of shotgun. I enjoy doing it with my Beretta A300 but there is just something additionally fun about breaking open that Citori, watching the smoking casings pop out, loading up a couple more, snapping it closed, and hearing your pigeons get launched in the air to get your blood pumping.

Breach seated hand cast 200 grain tapered bullet from a 32-40 Schuetzen rifle, offhand, 200 yards, sweet double set trigger, and hitting the inner ring of the 25 ring target. How the rifle contours to fit your body rather than your body fitting the rifle is unparalleled.

All that full auto stuff is a rush... at first. The zen experience of a single shot rifle, carefully prepared, carefully aimed, precisely fired, is exceptional.

... Either that or an RPG. :neener:

At one of my NRA classes:

"What is it called when there's a perceptibly delay between pulling the trigger and the gun firing?"

"A flintlock!" (from the peanut gallery... real answer is a hangfire for anyone wondering)

You could tell from the laughter who in the room had ever fired one.

Matt
You should try a good late 18th century or early 19th century target pistol (aka "dueling pistol") or fowling piece. The lock time on those is as good as a percussion.

My favorite gun to shoot that I own is my M1 Garand. Why any gun enthusiast wouldn't own one when the they could have bougt one from the CMP for a mere $625.00 is beyond me. Nothing like shooting and owning the "rifle that saved the world" from the forces of evil.

We recently did a machine gun shoot in Texas and I would say any full auto is a LOT of fun. The highlight for me was hand holding a ridiculously heavy Maxim IMG 08/15 8mm belt fed machine gun and shooting it from the hip "Rambo" style. Stupid fun. I've wanted to shoot an M2 and a 1919A4 since I was a kid and both were spectacular to shoot. I tend to like the 1919A4 a bit better simply because if I ever move to a free state, I could conceivably own one and be able to afford feeding it occasionally. I couldn't do that with an M2.

Shooting a full auto .308 battle rifle like the HK 91 was pretty spectacular. The German MP40 is probably the sweetest shooting FA I have shot, it was so smooth and pleasant to shoot. The M16 and AK47s in full auto are a kick to shoot. One you should definitely try is a Glock 18C or a converted Glock 17 in full auto. 1200 rounds per minute is insane but putting it into a Roni shoulder stock makes it fairly safe to actually shoot without losing control.

Everyone should also shoot a medium to high powered long distance rifle that has been properly set up with a high powered optic. Detonating exploding targets at a few hundred yards is pretty fun too.

Here are some I've never had the privilege to shoot but always wanted to:

Stoner 63
Any Accuracy International (MCMXI, call the office)
M135 165mm on the old CEV, only met a very few engineers that ever got to shoot that thing
FG 42

Those would allow me to die a happy man
