YouTube recommendations

Might put some videos together this hunting season.

FWIW Microsoft Clip Champ does an OK job of making videos.

Pretty intuitive. But basic.

Hey everybody, curious if there’s any YouTube channels that you would recommend I check out? I’m always looking for reviews on stuff and feel like Youtubers typically have the most latest information but there’s also a lot of junk out there. So if you have any recommendations for people to follow or watch let me know. Thank you.
Hickcock45 - fantastic reviews
Colin Noir - good legal perspective
Honest Outlaw - excellent reviews

Almost all of it, from my perspective, is two minutes of information packed into a twenty minute format. When I'm looking for actual information, I vastly prefer to read it. One exception: disassembling/reassembling something complex, where actually seeing it done has real value.

When I'm just looking for entertainment, with perhaps some slight bit of information included, I enjoy Hickock45, Capandball, and the longhunter/historical trekking/flintlock channels like Townsends - but that's not exactly mainstream gun stuff.

I will say that I like Paul Harrell's channel and have actually learned a thing or two from him. A lot of people seem to really dislike him, though.
Agree. Most of it is a huge waste of time. Very little objective honest information. Lots of time wasting fluff and pure BS. Mostly annoying to watch by people with no real expertise either on guns or shooting. A few are worth watching but hard to wade through junk to find them. The same with repair videos. Some random guy in his garage doing it for the first time and not sure what to do.

In no particular order, here are the ones I watch regularly

Hickok45
Active Self Protection
Active Self Protection Extra
22 Plinkster
Honest Outlaw
The Firearms guy
Colton Noir
Mrgunsngear
Armed Attorneys
Brownells
Armed Scholar

and of course, me :) - Gun Slant (I'm real low production value)

A lot of it has turned into advertising, TFB is popular, but I just see them as Gun Rag: The Motion Picture given they only ever praise high priced stuff and basically say anything less than premium is junk. Many other channels fall into this category.

Hickok is a good entry level channel, but he doesn't go deeper than generic talking points. I rarely watch him anymore.

Nutnfancy I still like, but he's basically been repeating himself for the last 15 yrs. His long talks on his alt channel where he talks about the days where there will be no law are very good, but his gun reviews are so formulaic now that I do not watch them anymore unless it's for something that really interests me.

That said, his knife reviews are great.

The guys I watch the most are Paul Harrell, Lucky Gunner, FortuneCookie45LC (the best reloading focused channel on YouTube), duelist1954, and capnball. I like InRange and Forgotten Weapons at times, then there are others where I feel those two are getting high off their own fumes.

Lately been watching more Buffalo Outdoors as he does videos on stuff others aren't. That's a major reason why I don't really care for the big channels because they only focus on the most popular stuff, which means AR's and 9mm and frankly that is boring.

I still frequent nutnfancy. I enjoy the Vortex Nation for their 10 minute talks and other podcasts. Iraqveteran8888 for Gun Gripes, top 5 guns, meltdowns. Ron Spomer for hunting advice and what works, what doesn't, what's new, etc. Garand Thumb for the LARPing content and comedy.

for firearms news and a few reviews i watch The Gun Collective, always nice to see what is new in the industry.

Forgotten Weapons and Paul Harrel are the two best I know of (Ive seen pretty much all of them at one point). I find the ones where people just shoot to be as interesting as a commercial as its basically a sales ad. C&R Arsenal does some pretty good history at times. Forgotten weapons will teach you a lot on how firearms actually work and function in terms of design. Harrel cuts through a lot of the nonsense and is very practical.

The rest are basically mindless entertainment. Hickock seems like a nice guy and can shoot well but there is not a whole lot in terms of learning. Same goes for 22 plinkster and the entire TFB crew. Most youtubers are just "influencers" and the fan base is more about the personality/host than any sort of technical info. Some of them have really lousy shooting fundamentals for being such "experts" and dont have real great knowledge about firearms across the board. Its just pushing the latest fad that they are told. Its an entire industry of this kind of thing on youtube now.

Other than that its a matter of finding certain videos that might be good for a particular fiream or design. Most of the time its a nobody who really digs into the details. Lots of good 1911 stuff on there (also bad!). There is a good Glock tuner on there (JohnnyGlocks I think). He knows his stuff about tuning Glocks which can help across a lot of the modern striker fired stuff.

In the end its whatever you are looking for. I tend to want to learn something more than be entertained. I watch older films for entertainment.

This guy is known but I dont watch all his stuff.. He did one of my favorite videos because he actually was able to test the Gyrojet and go into detail on how the system works. I thought he did a solid job and some pretty rare info.

Some are mindless entertainment and many are just really bad.

Paul Harrell is excellent. Garand Thumb is also worth the time, especially if you like plaid.

I’m a Tools & Targets, Big Game Hunting Blog, GunBlue490, Primal Rights, Paul Harrell, and IraqVeteran8888 man.

Im not a fan of Colon, TFB or the Bum Thumb.

I do also enjoy Colion Noir for his legal advise and takes (the Legal Brief on The Gun Collective sadly no longer exists). His gun reviews are very interesting for sure. Brandon Herrera is also excellent for just random chicanery, occasional AK50 updates.

I don't know if they're doing them anymore, but Brownell's SmythBusters videos were always pretty informative; if a bit sales pitchy.
