So I have my SC CWP, have had it now for decades. Got my Florida non-resident permit some years ago when my youngest daughter, my Dr. of Psychology, moved down there with her husband and children. We're down in Florida now quite a bit at our second home.

Now I've decided to get my Utah non-resident permit. With it, combined with the other two, I should be able to travel freely, carrying concealed (and sometimes open), in 42 of 50 states.

My Son still lives in SC but my other two daughters live in Berkeley and Portland, both attorneys ... not much I can do when visiting the two older girls ... they live in communist countries.

So what/where is your resident permit and what are the two non-resident permits you are looking-at obtaining? How are you planning your strategy for maximum coverage?

One thing I have learned is that people living in some/certain states, they have an advantage over others when it comes to reciprocity and/or coverage in terms of non-resident permits.

With my Washington permit I’m good for 29ish states I believe. Most of the ones I wanna go to dont require a permit for a concealed weapon

I have an Illinois ccp which has the least reciprocity(probably). I also keep a Utah non-res, and have applied for my Florida about 90days ago.
Mrs' parents spend winters in Florida, so we visit them there about every year.

The Utah covers most of the western union

I have resident PA and non-resident AZ permits. I can carry in 39 states. The 11 I cannot carry in generally do not recognize anything but their own permits like NY, NJ, CS, etc. I don’t want to go to those anti 2A states anyway.

Does your physical CCP card actually say 'non-resident'?

I think AZ 'non-resident' permit is a misnomer.

When I got mine, there was only one card and there doesn't seem to be any changes that currently indicate that there are 2 different perments for residents vs non-residents.

https://www.azdps.gov/services/public/cwp

The actual application is linked there too.

You need to be a legally classified 'permanent AZ resident' or a 'US citizen'

With my AR CHCL, getting a UT non-resident would add only WA to my list; getting FL non-resident would not even add that one. It does not seem worth the trouble to get a non-resident permit, given that most all the other states are may-issue and non-reciprocal.

I keep trying to talk myself into getting a Utah and Florida (I have an Illinois resident permit), just haven't gotten around to it and don't really travel often so it hasn't been a priority.

Since I live only minutes from Maryland it would be good not to be pulled over, searched, and hauled off with my PA LTCF being invalid there

Maryland does not honor any other state Permit/Licenses.
Note: From the Maryland State Police FAQs
Q. Are out of state handgun permits valid in Maryland?
A. No. The only exception is to armored car drivers who possesses a valid permits from other states, who are on duty in Maryland.

If I get my resident permit (not likely now with me spending 350+ days a year in constitutional carry states) only things I can say that I would add would be NY as the wife really wants to go there specifically, and Utah as that would cover the vast majority of the places on my list to go to. But I won’t get any of them most likely.

Do not want to be too political but the USA should have Constitutional carry!

Went to class yesterday to renew my permits before June 21 when my Minnesota and Utah cards expire.
Florida goes for another two years.
I do not get it.........whatever...

Getting too old for someone half my age telling me what to do.
But amazingly, I did learn a couple of things!

Will get these again.

Catch 22.

Use care, B.L.

My Alabama permit is valid in 32 states. The only state that issues a non-resident permit with more (that I know of) would be Florida with 35 states honored. The no-chance-in-hell pipe dream is a non resident permit for NY state so I can be armed while visiting my family. I have better chance of qualifying for LEOSA than that happening.

Well, based upon some older research, which may require updating, I am considering UT and MA. I am a Texas resident. The UT carry license would be for traveling in WA state, as WA did not, last time I checked, recognize a TX LTC. The MA carry permit would be to facilitate legally transporting through NY under the provisions of FOPA.

I actually have the ability to carry under the provisions of the LEOSA, but whatever the US congress giveth, the US congress can taketh away, so it would be a good idea to have the states’ carry licenses/permits.

My Florida CWFL is good in pretty much any state I'd want to be. Most, if not all, of the states that don't honor it likely don't issue non-resident licenses/permits, anyway. It appears from the content of this thread that a Utah NR permit would add a few states, but I'm not motivated to investigate further since I never travel north of the MDL or west of the Mississippi anymore.

Now, if I could get one for Russia..

Yes, thanks, I was aware of this. What I was implying but did not make clear enough is that I ought to take the Maryland required handgun licensing training in the state.

Does MD even have a non-resident license? I cannot tell by nosing around https://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/CriminalInvestigationBureau/LicensingDivision.aspx
I could tell you would have to go to MD not only for an approved trainer, but also for an approved LiveScan location for your fingerprints.
If MD will not issue a wear and carry license with a PA address should you use a MD address, in the county you apply for a MD license, that might open you up to a variety of other MD laws regarding taxes, vehicle registration, etc. Just overall messy situation, I think. Good luck!

Quick question, I get this impression that having a FL CWP is a good one, is that true and why?

I've got MN as a resident, and Utah as a non-resident, mainly for the additional states it offered for very little cost, esp in the Southwest. If I wanted any others, it would be Florida, but I would need to either go to Florida to take the course or find someone in MN that instructed Florida.

Does it cover NV?
