Hi, I am thinking about buying an M92 PAP and adding a triangular folding stock and Krinkov muzzle brake. Has anyone done this on here? What are your recommendations? I'd like to do the conversion myself if it is not too complex. I know there are a lot of different parts on the commercial and surplus market. What are good parts and ones that are easy to install/satisfy my conversion?

Pictures, links to parts, videos, etc are all encouraged.

On a side not, I am familiar with the NFA process and 922r so please keep the thread geared towards the ways to Krinkov SBR the M92 PAP and not the legalities. Thanks!

Its pretty easy.

You can do the Form 1 online. This is easy assuming you already have a trust. You just fill in the information.

Adding the Krink break requires gently cutting the weld bead and unscrewing the thread protector that comes with it. If you have a dremmel it will take all of 2 minutes.

To be 922(r) compliant you can add a Tapco G2 trigger for $40. I prefer single hook. You can swap this out while watching TV. The only hard part is getting the retaining spring back in place -- you might need 3 hands.

I like the M92 stocks that connect above the grip, since you can take them off easily if you don't want it in an SBR configuration. Something like this:

I am currently in the process of SBRing a M92 myself. I submitted the form 1 back at the beginning of March, so I may have as long as four more months to wait.

I am going to do an underfolder on mine as I have one on my M70AB2 and I like it. I considered doing mine as a triangle folder and looked at the various offerings on the market and the only one I liked was the offering from AK Builder, if I was going to do a triangle folder, that is the one I would use.

Not to hijack the thread, but.. do you have a work in process thread or can you make one when you do this?

I don't have an M92 PAP, but I've thought about SBR'ing this Century Arms MP. It's too long to comfortably shoot "as a pistol" (rather worthless in that regards, to be honest).

I have an M70AB2 underfolder parts kit, but no barrel for it. Rather than build it up (I already have an M70AB2 rifle), I was going to scavenge the underfolder from the kit. The rear trunion on my M70AB2 underfolder is a complex bugger though.

I'm mechanically disinclined and more of a "follow instructions" type of guy. :)

Want to end up with something like my M70AB2 but shorter. ;)

rather worthless in that regards,

Have you tried shooting it with a sling? Push the gun out when shooting so that the sling is taught, and the accuracy should be somewhat better than a pistol, but not as good as a rifle. It is certainly good enough for any type of dynamic shooting.

This is a great option if you need maximum firepower in a "pistol."

That would work, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution - I already have things which are a better fit for 'close quarters dynamic shooting' (FS2000, PS90, but those both shoot little 556 projectiles...)

With this SBR'd it would be much more functional (stable), would still fit in a backpack, and fill a role I *don't* have right now (30 cal that's fit for 'close quarters dynamic shooting' yet still capable of reaching out to 100+ yards). With a closed stock it'd be more compact than either the FS2000 or PS90, yet unfolded it's as useful as a rifle and would pack more punch, to boot.

I don't have a build thread as I am still waiting on the stamp. But I can tell you that the M92 as a package is much smaller than a standard folding stock rifle.

Here is a comparison with my M70:

Even with the booster it is noticeably shorter.

I bought an M92 last night. I think I'm going to go with the Manticore Arms triangle stock and Storm Werkz side-folding hinge. It will require me to drill and tap two holes in the rear trunion, but I have a drill press and have drilled and tapped before so I am sure I can do it with relative ease. I plan to replace the trigger group with a double hook Tapco G2, cut the tack well and replace the thread protector with a U.S.-made Krinkov style brake, and replace the pistol grip with a Magpul in order to be 922r compliant. Does anyone have any advice on how to finish the hand guards so they are a red color? Any suggestions on my plan? Thanks!

I just sanded down the guards and gave them a few coats of Minwax Sedona Red. Then some polyurethane on top of that. They didn't get too red. I've actually been thinking on sanding them again and using more of the stain.

Here it is with a brace on the back, a CNC Warrior flash hider on the front, and a 75 round drum in the middle.

I have had good luck with using RIT dye. I use two parts of red and one part brown, dissolve it in alcohol and it gives me the color that I want. The handguards on my PAP were done this way. I finish with a couple of coats of urethane.

highpower, that PAP looks to be the exact color that I'm shooting for. What kind of pistol grip is that? Thanks.

I just SBR'd my AK PAP last year.

Check out Manticore Arms for their triangle folding stock. It is amazing, light weight, solid and made in the good ol US of A. I coupled it with a Stormwerkz (how they spell it) folding hinge and it's great.

I also went with the Manticore muzzle device (the Nightbrake) and one of their fore ends. I bought the Texas Weapon System dust cover with a rail and thought about their fore end but it was considerably more expensive and I didn't see the need.

Shooting the PAP indoors is great fun, except for the people next to you. Can't wait to shoot it inside of a vehicle at our next Vehicle Tactics Course. :)

Looks more Romanian to me.

It's not. The color came out somewhat washed out in the photo, but it is almost the exact same shade of orange as the Russian bakelite magazine that is in the gun.

Not to hi-jack your thread but I'm in a similar dilemma

I did an PAP M85 last year using the Manticore triangle stock and ACE's push-button hinge, I like it and it's very comfortable to shoot.

Then at Christmas a local pawn/gun shop had an PAP M92 they made me a deal I couldn't pass up, I got my stamp about 6weeks ago but I still haven't gotten the rear trunnion drilled for the hinge so in the meantime I'm using a modified armbrace.

Then I got the idea to be different and use an VZ-58 folding stock ... Now I'm not sure which way to go ... it's just sitting next to the M92 to see how it would look.

I'm open to comments ... should I go with a twin ... or the VZ stock?

I like that VZ stock a lot. The triangle folder doesnt look right without the proper trunnion and LEFT side folding.

Kinda of what I'm thinking for this one too ... although, the VZ stock may have been more practical on the M85 (223) as its much softer shooting.

The traditional side is the left

However the comfortable side, especially if you are going to sling/carry it folded, is the right side that way you have the left side flat while the right side has both the charging handle and the stock on the same side.

The right side folder makes it difficult/impossible to fire with the stock folded though.

I've shot mine folded without issue however I do have a wedge under the bottom of the hinge to change the angle of the dangle so the charge handle doesn't hit the stock when folded ... and unless you have really big fingers, there is no problem pulling the trigger with it folded either ... but that's an advantage of the VZ stock too, the angle is already corrected so the charge handle doesn't hit the stock when folded and there is no leg of the triangle in the way of the trigger.

I'll try to get a picture from down the side of the receiver with the stock folded sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Well this one got me in big trouble a couple years ago when my wife got home earlier than expected. :)

But the east german side folder (two of them on far right, one standing up is harder to see) is a great side folder, ergonomically and functionally speaking.

Trying to find a better view. This is one of 'em hung off my DShK (used it for scale)

This is an old crappy photo but a couple of the east german folders are visible here.

They're pretty scarce today, unfortunately, but I'd put one on an SBR in a heartbeat.

Here's a better picture ... it's awkward fitting my hand on the trigger and taking the picture with my left hand, but you get the idea, its definitely easier with a stock like the VZ that doesn't have the triangle leg in the way ... it its made to fold to the right
