Yugo conviscated German 98k?

Well, I have recently gone to the gunshow and picked up a German 98K. Well, the guy said it was original but it did not have the markings. He said that it was picked up by the Yugos during WWII and had the markings grinded off and then was reissued. It has Preduzece44 on one side of the reciever and on the other it had T5286. On the top it has a figure that looks like wings and a torch ( my eyes might have decieved me) and in the middle it says 29X1943. I picked it up for $150 private sales. It also says Model 98 on the side. Does anybody know anything about this rifle? There was another guy there that said I got a really good deal on it. He said that he would have bought it if I didn't. Plus, can you please help me out with the value, takedown, and any other tricks that could help me out. Thanks in advanced.

The guy said it was a German 98k used in WWII. THats all that I know. I don't know anything about 98's. Any information about 98ks will be greatly appreciated.

From what I know, I believe what the guy told you is correct. The Yugoslavians captured a great deal of 98ks during their guerrilla war and after the end of the war. I have a Yugo mauser that has the markings you described, but not the "mod. 98" you said is on yours. Because my 98k has that "mod. 98" marking, that leads me to believe your rifle was indeed used by the nazis, captured by the Yugoslavians, and re-arsenaled for their forces.

I have two KAR98Ks, one all German marked, with Preduzece 44 on the left side, as well as a Yugo capture KAR98K with the Waffenampts ground off and Preduzece 44 as well. Mod 98 doesn't appear on either.

I got two like orignally discribed

These 98k rifles were imported by Century sometime in the 90's. I got two of them from 1999. They cost, Century's price, delivered, about $100 at the time.

The old communist countries, in many instances, didn't want any trace of the old Nazi Germany to remain on these weapons. But if you look close, you will see they missed a mark or two.
