Where they tell me to go
Sorry is this has been covered already. If so, please direct me to the link.

I'm looking for another 8mm to shoot up all this surplus ammo that keeps calling to me.

Leaning towards a Yugo mauser. However, not sure what the differences are in the models or fair prices for them.

24/47?
48 and aren't there a's, and b's of these?

I'm also seeing Egyptians listed now. How are these?

Which one to buy, and an idea of a fair price would be great.

Thanks,

All the M48s are the same except the models after the M48- M48A, M48B,and M48BO(Egyption contract) have some stamped parts on them. Of the bunch I'd buy a 24/47 so lond as I could inspect the bore first- some have new looking barrels, some are sewer pipes, same with the M48 series rifles.

I have one of the Yugo Mauser's that was made for the Egyptians (The Yugoslav's made them and the Egyptians never paid up so they sat in a warehouse for 40 years) and it is of the absolute highest quality. There isn't a crest (the Yugo's left it blank for the Egyptians to put toheir own on) but once you know what you're looking for, you'll find them in perfect, unfired condition.

I have two that were in brand new, unfired condition (one still is as I bought it on spec). They came with bayonets, matching numbers on parts, various pouches and stuff, just as they would have been issued to troops. got mine a few years ago from empirearms. these are the same as you can get from Mitchell's Mausers for $250.00. well worth it.

Classic Arms might have some in stock. I don't know how knew they are. If you're on the west coast, I would recommend going to the Big 5 stores around you. There's bound to be at least one 24/47 in stock in new condition. I almost bought one in Yakima, WA, but I passed it up for a K31 in much better condition than the ones I regularly see. Otherwise, I would have bought the 24/47. They're tasty rifles and are (as I have heard) rather accurate with the 50s and 70s Yugo surplus ammo.

Hope that helps.

24/47 have a straight bolt similar to the Mosin, 48a's have a turned down bolt (still not turned down enough to clear a scope if you drill and tap I believe)

The M48 had milled parts, 48a has a stamped floor plate, 48b has stamped floor plate and barrel bands, and the BO which is actually somewhat rare that has no markings on it but is simliar to the 48A.

Action is a bit shorter then a K98. Overall, I'm very pleased with the one I purchased. Un-issued, mirror bore that still looks like new even after the 800 or so rounds I've shot through it lol. Shoots high at the 100 yard range but some of the groups I've gotten with it have really made me strive to try to shoot better then my gun rather then vice versa.

premium grade m48

I JUST BOUGHT ONE FOR 359.00 W/ALL THE FIXINS. PREMIUM GRADE & VERY BEAUTIFUL. 99% CLEAN OF COSMOLINE, NICE BLUEING,& UNIQUE COLORING ON THE STOCK FROM EL CAJON GUN EXCHANGE.

I paid $190 +tax for an unmarked Egyptian contract M48 BO with all the accessories. My only complaint is that the bayo that came with it didn't match and the sling had obviously been used before (has something etched into it in Serbian dialect). Otherwise, this rifle was in perfect condition. In fact, you can still faintly see where somebody hand-wrote the serial number on the stock in pen next to the etched serial number. I've only shot it once, and I'm waiting to put an Iron Elite scope mount setup on it.

Beautiful rifle. I believe that it has some "Cherry" importer mark on it.
