I noticed on my sks(59/66a1) that the rear sight base has what looks like an upside down number two on the left side. It looks like it is written it black pen or something similaer but it does not rub off. Also when I look closely the same mark is on the barrel nut(right side) and the right side of the magazine close to the top. The marks on the barrel and magazine are stamped and inside a box. They are pretty small and I never noticed them before. I have read that some russians were stamped with 1/2/3 for accuracy marks but have never heard of any markings like this on yugos. Anybody know?

It's strange because the same symbol is on the mag and barre, but instead of being stamped in the sight base it was penned or possibly engraved in. It's tough to tell because the sight base also has machine marks. Im not sure I can get a clear picture of it, but if needed I can try.

I'm pretty sure the one in the little box means that the rifle has been re-arsenaled or some modifications have been done. Could mean your 59/66 was just a 59 then upgraded to a 59/66, re blued, re inspected, etc
