Zak Smith had a great feature article in the most recent edition of Shotgun News on the 6.8 SPC cartridge. Anybody else see it?

Great write-up,

even if it was for a southpaw AR! Pretty color picture.

Has anyone heard anything coming out of DoD circles about the 6.8? They supposedly bought several million rounds of ammo from Remington a couple of years ago, then nothing. Remington reps at the SHOT show didn't have much to say six months ago.

I suspect they're waiting for Iraq to die down before they look seriously at another cartridge -- IF they look at another cartridge. I almost bit for a Model 1 Sales top half a year or so ago, then held off after I had trouble finding ammo available.

Yes, I saw it. Great to have one of our own published. When Zak starts talking ballistics and optics, it goes whoosh! right over my head.

Zak is also one of the nicest guys you would ever hope to meet, and his SO, Sasha, is an absolute sweetheart. I hope they can make the Colorado Get Together this year.

I did have one question for him about an apparent ommission he made:

He had a table comparing the velocity and bullet drop of .223 in 62 and 77 gr, 6.8 SPC in 110 and 115 gr, 7.62x39, and .308 at the muzzle, 200 and 400 yards.

I have to ask, why not include the 6.5 Grendel? Especially since a bunch of folks consider the Grendel to be the SPC's main competition.

Other than that, very well written and informative article group.

Hi,

Sorry, I've been MIA for a while.

At already over 6000 words for all three articles, I didn't feel like I had room to do any kind of X vs Y vs Z in terms of calibers. That's a whole 'nother article.

best regards
Zak
