Zero Gun Tolerance....

I actually agree with one of the things they brought up.

I believe in mandatory sentences for people committing a crime with a gun, with a couple of ground rules. 10 years for the first offense, 20 years for a second offense. A third gets you life without parole.

But ... no plea bargains, no juvenile courts, no exceptions.

The same people here in Chicago that support gun bans are the same ones that show up on camera or in court weeping and wailing when a 14 year old is arrested and charged with holding up a 7 - 11 with a gun and beg for him to be sent to Juvie court for counseling and probation.

If the 13 year old junior gang banger knows that he is going down for ten if he takes the gun the 18 years old gangster hands him to hold, he may want to think twice about it. Either that, or they'll start to run out of 13 year olds pretty quick as they are sent up the river.

And some idiot will say, "Well, how would a 13-year old know about that?"

The answer is, "When the first 13-year old goes down for 10, the others will hear about it pretty quick."

Boy, the guy at 3:13 seemed like he wasn't completely clueless. He started out decrying the use of guns in crime. Then at about 3:55 he goes nutty and says that one doesn't have a handgun for target shootings, but to be a menace to society.

If you can make it to part two, there is an interesting comment by a guy who mentions that by denying bail for gun crimes, at least on the first offense, it goes against the concept of innocent until proven guilty.

Okay... why? Is a crime committed with a gun somehow more heinous than a crime committed with a knife, an automobile, or chopsticks? Is someone who gets shot going to be more dead than someone who is stabbed?

How about we just punish people for the crime -- that is what really matters after all, right? Leave the inanimate tools out of it.

If we put all the people who use guns in crimes and keep them there, I will be less likely to face a man armed with a gun. And since I carry, he's toast.:neener:

Hope this works out in Toronto - I'm 250 lbs and have a nasty big knife and am on a very limited income. This would give me a vacation spot where I could easily come home with a lot more money than when I left!

I agree with this.

I don't know if this is a moot point or not.... Holding a knife in the air, 30 feet away from someone, is a different threat level than aiming a gun at someone from the same distance (i.e. not against their body). However, when the attacker is assaulting someone, there is not a difference in the intent. Maybe this is one circumstance where the gun holder should be penalized more heavily than someone with a knife? I don't know; I'm just bringing up that distinction.

Violent criminals should be dealt with harshly with no regard to their choice of tools.

To argue differently is a sign of hoplophobia.

So then if criminals whose victims are children receive harsher sentences is that a sign of pedophilia? :scrutiny:

I believe the tool used to commit a crime should have little to do with the sentence; the outcome of the crime should be the major factor.

As noted on another thread, getting whacked with a 2x4 is actually much more likely to kill you than being shot. Use of building supplies in the commission of a crime, however, will get you a lesser sentence in many jurisdictions.
