I’ve heard good things (especially price) about Zero bullets and thought I would give them a try. I’m loading for my PO1 and with it’s “short throated†characteristic, some bullet designs require deeper seating than in other pistols. With this in mind, before I buy a thousand of them, I was hoping some of you folks could share your experiences with Zero 9mm. Particularly, their 125 gr. JHP, especially COL. Any info. such as load data and how they preformed for you would be appreciated

I used several thousand of them in '03, and finished them up in early '04. I got reasonably good accuracy from them.

RE: OAL's. I seated the 115gr jhps to 1.10" oal. These were the most accurate, but not suprisingly as my S&W perf. ctr. guns are all more accurate with the 115gr. The Zero's performed about like most "value" priced jacketed bullets. However, my accuracy requirements are high, so I have once again gravitated back to Remington's for the short lines, and Sierra's or Hornady's for the long lines (50yds), however, some lot #'s of the Remingtons are equally accurate. (Under 1.0" at 25yds. My powder of choice at present (till I run out of 16lbs) is Win. SuperField, 5.3gr for just about 1,200fps. (1,170 w/4", 1,195 from 5", and 1,240 from 6".

The 125's shot well, but for some reason, I had to up my powder charge from my normal 4.8gr to 5.3gr to get reliable cycling from my 6" PPC-9. OAL was 1.125". Velocity was ~1,200fps. Quite "punchie" but not much more recoil than the 115gr load. A little closer to MAP than I prefer for a Match load. I've lost "BIG" matches because of primer piercing, case buldging, ect. I like to run a little less pressure as long as accuracy is acceptable, and functioning is reliable.

The 147's are a neat design. They have a rebated tail to reduce barrel bearing surface. They shot "ok", again, just about as well as my guns shoot a 147gr bullet. I get a bit of diagonal stringing with all 147's. Some more than others. This one fell somewhere in the middle. I used them at 1.14" oal over 4.5gr of WSF for about 975fps. (duplicates Anderson Munitions load if used with the Hornady 147gr bullet at 1.14"oal) according to Dennis Anderson. If you seat to 1.105"-1.120" as some suggest, back down to 4.3gr.

If they were a little less expensive, I'd shoot more of the 115's, but, the Remingtons were running ~$89.00/2M this past summer, so they easily trumped the Zero's. Precision Delta used to use the Remington 115gr JHP bullets at 1.125" oal over 5.0gr of Win231. This is probably the most accurate factory 9mm ever loaded perhaps only equaled if exceeded by the Federal 115gr classic. To near duplicate the Federal Classic (my 5" PPC-9 came with a .495" 5-shot "proof" group fired and signed by Tom Gordon), I use OFB Federal, Federal primer, and the Remington 115jhp at 1.115" oal over either 4.3gr of Bullseye, 4.9gr of Win231 or 5.3gr of WSF. I've won most of the matches I won with Semi-autos shooting this load. Be careful with the Bullseye however, as a round where the bullet sets back on chambering is apt to pierce a primer, whereas the other two loads won't.

Some of the commercial reloading operations will sell the bulk packed Hornady's at "bulk" prices even though Hornady requires them to sign an agreement not to. I'm getting Hornady 115gr JHP's for 55.00/M. These are reserved for the "Distiguished" matches that require "factory" ammo and big matches where guns/merchandise is awarded. They are good, but not $12.00/100 good. Neither are the Sierra's, or the Noslers. Not when the Remingtons are less than half as much. Ditto the Zero's.
