I was thinking about how often we see "SHTF" discussions starting up around here. Often, the subject that is discussed has been discussed numerous times in the past and we are essentially beating the fabled dead horse of legend and lore.

I'm as guilty of this as anyone.

Currently a few of us are working on a SHTF primer that will hopefully be valuable enough to add to THR's Library. However, that will not satisfy our (me included) inate desire to discuss every particular issue to its extreme.

Because we are members of THR, we naturally bring this discussion to these forums, even though it is not within the parameters of THR's stated objectives. It is a symptom of our comfortableness within this community, as well as its loosely connected love of firearms.

I thought I'd present an entertaining option for everyone who wishes to discuss these subjects in depth.

Because I am a long-time lover of idiotic, B-rated horror movies, I stumbled across Zombie Sqaud. This is a forum that discusses SHTF planning. For entertainment value, they apply the whole Zombie Outbreak SHTF theme to their site. No, no one REALLY believes that the living dead are coming, and the discussions are serious. It's simply a group that wants to prepare, but enterain themselves at the same time. I find that I visit at least once a day.

Its a great forum, and I'd highly recommend taking the Zombie outbreak discussions there. You wll have a blast!

I'll see you there when I am not on THR!

All the best!

Another option for "highly theoretical" discussions would be to hop over to ArmedPoliteSociety (www.armedpolitesociety.com) to post material outside the stated scope of THR, and S&T in particular.

APS was created to offer an expanded scope for discussions that were not strictly firearms related. General Preparedness threads would be such an example. "Red Dawn/Mars Attacks/Dawn of the Dead", invasion, threads would be another example.;) Think of APS being the bar side of THR.

Warning, just because APS's scope is broader than THR's doesn't mean that you aren't required to be civil. Like the name says, you're expected to be polite over there.

Oh, and you'll be pointed over here for topics that are a better fit for THR.:D

THR is a firearm forum. It's mission is to promote the responsible use of firearms.

We try to keep the Strategies and Tactics subforum supporting that mission by keeping the discussion focused on self defense issues. Real, possible self defense issues. Discussions of generators, pickup trucks, long term food, water and fuel storage are inteesting and the staff enjoys them as much as anyone else, but they are not on topic as they don't support THR's mission.

Action adventure fanasies can be fun too. But once again, they don't fit into our mission statement.

Thank you for the link. I will check it out. I agree with the mods on the fantasy stuff. I like zombie stuff its cool and if you have read "The Zombie Survival Guide" You can actually see how much of that book could be used in real life..just substitute zombie for whatever. I believe however that the zombie discussion or SHTF discussions are very good for planning. I always tell friends and family...practice plan A, be prepared to use plan B, and when A or B fail grab the guns, gear and food and head out well known as PLAN OMG SHTF.Not trying to be silly but its always good to discuss and plan and make sure you are prepared.

Yep, I agree with the Mods, as well.

Being the type of persons we are here, we tend to want to prepare and to talk about it in GREAT detail. However, this line of discussion isn't within the parameters of this board. Fortunately, that site welcomes and encourages that type of discussion as part of its overall mission.

And I definately agree that applying a bit of fun to the whole discussion makes it more interesting. After all, if you have prepared for a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world, you are ready for anything.

I just want a zombie monkey to shoot every now and again like on Pirates of the Caribbean.

All the best!

John

PS: I am registered as "JWarren" on that board, APS, and on the Saiga Forum as well.

Jeff, zombies are a tradition.

Playing a banjo while shooting zombies is the epitome of style.

Playing a banjo while shooting zombies, while simulataneously impressing certain Korean female soldiers - priceless...
