Cargo pocket carry.

I know the cargo pocket (ones on the thigh-knee area) are not optimum for drawing, but has anyone done it? I'm thinking of mounting a holster (somehow) inside the pocket. It seems like the most comfortable way to put a larger gun, short of OWB, which is not even close to the same level of concealment. Thoughts?

I've done it, got a nice holster from Daltech Force that holds the gun plus an extra magazine.
Only complaint is the gun tends to fall out when you go to sit down since there is no pressure from the pocket keeping it in, cargo pockets are quite roomy and loose.
I keep it in the car glove compartment now and got a "normal" pocket holster.

Yeah, I've tried it around the house, and the gun does move around way too much for me to comfortably do it as a normal carry method (works great in the car, though). So that's why I am thinking of figuring out a way to mount a holster inside the pocket.

Even in a holster, the gun is going to beat your leg black & blue and wear all the skin off if you walk any distance at all.

Cargo pockets with heavy stuff in them do that unless you tie them to your legs with boot laces or 550 cord.

Ehh, I've carried stuff in my pockets quite a bit and it's less irritating than a beaver-tail sticking in my stomach. But if I'm modifying a pair of shorts, it wouldn't be difficult to add a bit of padding or something like that.

Another advantage of carrying in the non-cargo pocket is that you can have your hand in it, already on the gun, without appearing threatening. It takes a series of obvious, unmistakable motions, as well as time and both hands, to draw from a cargo pocket.

I think RC might be using a bit of hyperbole , but he is essentially correct. Guns, or any other relatively heavy object, do swing, flop and beat against your leg. The cargo pocket is good, however, for wallets, keys, small flashlights, cell phones, etc., especially since you've already taken up one entire pocket for the gun.

+1 to the gun swinging around. I dont mind my few ounce cellphone smacking my leg all day, nor my soft leather wallet, but my keys drive me NUTS down there!

A gun is much heavier and will "print" fairly obviously, I would think. Even if the average person didn't think "gun" when they saw something heavy down there, they might assume "valuable".

I also agree with they guy who said its a lot more obvious if you go for your gun.

My question is, what pistol have you tried carrying on the belt, in what holster, and in what position.

I agree with other posters, a large pistol in a cargo pocket flopping around that low, even in a holster would be annoying. It would also be pretty difficult to draw from while standing. I'll grant you though, sitting in a car, it may be easier to draw from a cargo pocket than a belt holster if you are wearing your seatbelt.

I've done it and it is a real PITA. Give it a try. You will stop really quick and buy a quality holster.

Ditto....give it a try and see for yourself......I didn't like it either. I'd much rather pocket carry in the regular pocket.

During the summer months I carry my DB380 in a desantis pocket holster in my cargo pocket. Never had any problems with it beating me up or hard to draw from.

I have used a Mika pocket holster while out climbing and am satisfied with it. Not the greastest carry system but the gun is within reach and it doesn't bother me while hiking.
