I just submitted my tax return this weekend (first year in a while that I didn't wait until midnight on the 15th, LOL). After allocating funds from my measly refund to some projects I've been putting off, I'll have some left to spend on a toy.

I have a few items on the wish list but am having trouble deciding which one to acquire first. Among these are:
  • CT-compliant AR-15 variant (DSI, perhaps);
  • Smith & Wesson 586 4" blued;
  • Colt 1911 Government Model;
  • SIG M17
There are more, but these are the top 4. Considering the political climate in this state, the difficulty of finding any decent AR-variant, and the likelihood of them being banned altogether, I'm leaning toward grabbing my first AR while that's still possible. But that Smith is just soooo pretty and tempting...

I need enabling... er, I mean help.

Which would give you the most pleasure? Which would you shoot the most or spend time cleaning the most?

I say think about it and start with the one you think will answer those questions then go down the list in order as funds become available

Shooting enjoyment, probably the AR... Cleaning, probably not so much, LOL. I have plenty of handguns to satisfy my cravings on that front at the moment, but I have yet to own any AR-platform firearm, so I'm leaning in that direction, unless there's a compelling reason not to.

Then there's the question of 5.56 or 300 AAC Blackout... :eek:

Ditto. Along with a lot of extra standard capacity magazines. :D

No can do in CT. Limited to 10 rounds, and fixed mags depending on "features."

.223 first, 300 upper later.

I researched a little bit and learned that even the bolt/carrier group is the same. This is good to know. I like the idea of just being able to swap uppers.

When I saw Connecticut I ruled out the M17 and AR15. I would go with the 586. It is a good general purpose handgun. Get the 7 shot.
If you can find a 5" that would be my first choice in barrel length.

I’m not an AR guy, only have one, and an AR pistol, but I would do the AR first, due to potential limits, then the Colt, then the revolver.

Put me on the AR bandwagon. Everything else is nice but you have to focus on what you may not be able to get 2-3+ years down the road. With a shifting political climate, I would get all the ban crazy toys first.

I agree with the AR, I bought some before Ca banned them... then 4 more “bullet button” guns after.

My state govt sucks, too, so I bought mine as a “screw you” to Sacto.

Stay safe!

(Quote redacted by me for emphasis.)

I understand what you are saying but I really don't like acquiescing to liberal positions so quickly.

I'm also in CT. You'll always be legally able to buy a 586 but maybe not so an AR in Ct. Personally, I'm biased toward 357/38 revolvers and would get the 586 just because I'd enjoy it more than your other choices. Get what you'd enjoy/need the most. Maybe get the AR while you can and 586 later.

586 blued as that will retain value and will probably be legal to own the longest.

Not sure if you’re already set up for 9mm. I’ve have an ar, but last year my son convinced me to buy a Beretta CX4 Storm In 9mm. I am an old school rifle guy and initially thought it looked too much like Star Wars. However, the gun is a hoot to shoot, extremely accurate and very ergonomic. It has become one of my favorite range guns and my choice for home defense.
