D2 looks to be a pain to forge. Large billets like that are machined then heat treated to usually the low 50's on the Rockwell scale in industrial manufacturing. I've got a sheet of it (2":x24"x 3/32") waiting for the mood to make a pair of Kitchen knives out of. It might make a nice post anvil...
Poor defenseless little Blur. What is the steel on that one? I've got an old Red with some version of 440 steel and the combo edge that I have been kicking around for decades.
Someone I work with wanted to preserve the Hunting knife his father used and gave to him(Top). I had the honor of lightly restoring that knife and its well worn sheath.
I then went one more step and made him the bottom knife and sheath. The blade is W2 full hardness and everything else is sole...
Thanks all!
hso, the only credit I can take on the differential is just executing on what Kevin Cashen, Larrin Thomas and Don Hanson worked so hard to figure out. The next time I clay some blades I'm going to take before and after pictures. I thought makers were joking when they claim to be...
I got these 3 done in time to play Santa. All three are Aldo's W2, Red/black G10 handle (10" Breaker), Ebony and ironwood (Kiritsuke style slicer) and Blue micarta (Custom Cleaver). A blade from the same batch
Rockwell tested at 63
This is a slicer I made up for Thanksgiving. 1095 that was clayed and has a faint hamon but I liked the polised look better. Handle is ebony up front an sugar maple in the back bamboo skewer for a pin. I pooched the quench so the heal is a little soft. Still need some wood work and polish...
One thing that I have not seen in this thread. Here in Commonwealth of Kentucky it is a CCDW permit not as CCW permit. The D in this case means deadly weapons not just handguns. That means if I have a ASP baton, blackjack, large knife and other things that LEO's generally frown upon on me I am...
There is a 21" Remchoke barrel for the 870 for their youth models that has a rib. I lucked into one as I prefer the shorter barrels for rabbit or social work.
I had my older neighbor check the bunny for critters"wolves". In Okeechobee I could probably take 5 or so swamp rabbits with a slingshot if I was so inclined.
