Saw the old show, Manhunter, tonight and it got me to thinking.

If you had to take down a crazed serial killer what would you use?

My wife said machine gun... I said 14 inch barrel 12 gauge entry gun.

So, what do you say?

I'd turn the wife loose on him (I keep her in a constant state of PO'd just for this), then the dog, then the Mossberg, then the 1911.

Turbo Encabulator, using a modial unilateral phase detractor coupled to a sinusodal deplenterator, sequentially cross linked to a cardinal grammeter generating capacitive duraginance, obviously from prefamulated ammulite and not the cheaper hydrocoptic ammulite.

plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

In all seriousness, if ever presented with this highly improbable scenario, I'd take an AR. I'm intimately familiar with it and it's got enough punch.

As a guy who's been down a few places that had me puckered up pretty bad... my first response is that I'd like to be somewhere else if that "crazed serial killer" were around....

Failing that what I actually used was a basic 12ga. riot gun, one in the chamber, finger on the safety - not on the trigger (Remington 870). I had complete confidence in its ability as a manstopper. Just to be on the safe side though, I always wore a pair of lightweight running shoes.... Yes, there are one or two bad actors you might actually have to outrun after you've hit them a killing shot. That sort of stuff would keep you up at night if you thought about it....

That "finger on the safety" routine was learned because in police work an accidental discharge has severe consequences..... One last thought - if I had a choice I'd rather face a wounded bear than a really bad human at close quarters - the human is probably more dangerous in every way....

Well, it wouldn't be a standard .38 revolver... because all they did was make him look like he was taking a dump in that movie.

I did like that movie, by the way. But Red Dragon was closer to the book than that movie was. I'm not a reader, but enjoyed it.

"Manhunter" 1986 was adopted from the Thomas Harris novel "Red Dragon" prequel to "Silence of the Lambs". The remake movie "Red Dragon" was truer to the novel, but I think the style of "Manhunter" better matches the bleak devastated soul of the FBI agent who has gazed too long into the abyss opening the depths of his soul to chaos. Friedrich Nietzsche vibe to this movie. When FBI agent Will Graham goes forth to do battle with monsters (wondering if he is becoming one himself), his weapon of choice is a Charter Arms .44 Special Bulldog, magnaported barrel, fat grips, loaded with Glaser safety slugs. The serial killer Francis Dollarhyde uses some kind of pistol with silencer on his killing runs. For home defense he has a 12ga pump, extended magazine, pistol grip, with a muzzle attachment. Feds and local LE following Graham carried 12ga 870 riot guns and ARs.

If surprise home invaded I would have at hand as designated home defense a .38 Rossi revolver and a 12ga pistol grip pump 19" barreled 00 buck. If time to prepare, I would go with my .40 H&K USP and M1 Carbine with Win RN SP ammo. These are guns I've fired at range and in field and have confidence they will work as expected. Not maybe the best or something a professional would chose, but guns I know and trust.

Well we have guns and ammunition especially designed to stop Zombies but I am not aware of anything designed to stop crazed serial killers.

If there was ever a need that needs to be filled this is it. Firearm and ammunition manufacturers need to step up to the plate and get products out there for us.

Anybody know if Charter Arms sells a Manhunter Commemorative .44Spl Bulldog with Mag-n-porting, fat grips, and special silver jacketed Glaser Safety slugs for the discriminating buyer desiring to have a contingency for all 21st century pop culture nightmare scenarios: serial killers, zombies, vampires? This thread has me questioning my level of preparedness in relying on a AR15, 12ga shotgun, and Glock .40.:D

Wrong bullet for the job. Silver bullets are for use by the Lone Ranger and stopping werewolves.

Much more research and testing needs to take place to determine the correct bullet.

According to my sources (classic vampire mythology) silver does indeed burn vampires much like sunlight. Imagine the terminal ballistic effects of a silver bullet, burned up from the inside out.:D
