Please, unless it has already been butchered, don't destroy a P14. They are somewhat rare and really cool. The P14 is not a Remington or Eddystone, it is an Enfield. They were designed to replace the No1 MkIII rifle that had been in service with the British since the early 1900s. There were too few at the outbreak of WWI so the No1 MkIII was kept.

I'm pretty sure its been modified. If I can restore it I will. I read that the barrel lenth on them was 26. This one is listed as 24 though, unless they made a carbine verson, but doubt it would be a 24" carbine.

My suggestion to modify is on the premise that it's already been introduced to bubba, or his high falutin cousin the custom rifle builder. By NO means was I intending to suggest tearing down a complete factory P14. The barrel has already been shortened, so somebody rebarreled or otherwise modified it.

I'm betting that it someone started it and didn't finish it. looks like they cut the barrel down and may be ground off the ears. Thats a about it think I/m going to day, been waffling on it for almost a year and last time I did that I missed out on a sweet savage model 20 in 30-06 for $300. I'll say one thing for being a gun buyer in california. People into the black rifle craze do not want older bolt rifles and you can usually find them for pretty chreap. Just found a custom mauser in 257 rob at the same place for $300 as well.

Nothing wrong with that lol, i cant get too many good deals out here unless its a pretty random gun. Which is why i have 3 semi custom Arisakas, and im doing this project with my Abolt.

As a side note i just bought 3, .338 ultra mag, magazines, for 30 bucks on ebay.....say that 3 times fast.

For some reason i decided to see what other rounds would feed from this thing, and everything i have seems to stack and feed fine. Granted i dont have a barrel on my action.

For amusement i loaded 2 6.5-284s, a 30-06, qnd a 300 in it and they all stacked and fed fine.

This is the first mag ive seen this....unpicky
Has anyone else stuck random stuff in an ultramag magazine or gun?

.404 Jeffrey was always very interesting to me, all the Govt. Game wardens when I was in Africa in 79 and 80s had them, said they properly took everything. The .318 Westley Richards was also popular for plains game - a .33 bore with 250 grain bullet at 2400 fps works well ..

I was on another forum to get reloading data for my 375 ruger when they found out my 375 Ruger was a Mossberg I took a bunch of crap and decided to make the 404 Jeffery to shut them up I’m doing everything myself except the barrel it is a 26” PacNor I lengthened the mag and action myself as well as opening the bolt face to accept 404J rim.
I’m renting a reamer Monday to finish chamber Saturday then it’s glass time.

I’m in the process of building a 404 on a 98 Mauser about 80% finished it is a little work but doable.
This is my action after I worked on the feeding.

Nice work, that should be one heck of a build.
I actually considered just buying a Patriot in .375. Seems like pretty much everyone that actually owns one likes it, and its hard to beat the cost.

I have finally got the 404 J glassed and now I’m finishing the stock and working on a few feeding issues not big trouble but I’m doing a little work then trying it I did shoot it just to see if it works I must say next time I’ll put the recoil pad on before I shoot it or wear a coat or even a shirt. She lets you know you pulled the trigger.

Lol, your thread earlier reminded me to call Shaw this morning.
Barrels bored, and rifled. Its waiting on threading, profiling, and chambering.
Couple more weeks before i have it in hand. Probably a week after that to get the reamer and guages.....unless my local smith already has them, in which case ill have him stick the barrel on.

I do have some old ones. The front sight is my diy band and a Lyman globe sight bottom is my diy rear ghost ring all high because that is where they feel natural.

Those parts look excellent! the finished rifle should be really sweet!

Ive found that unless a stock has alot of drop I much prefer open sights be higher than is standard fair as well. With modern high comb stocks ive found it difficult to even use the open sights on some rifles.

My scope is higher than it should be but it fits me well.

I got my H&H, because.

I like it a lot, though admittedly I haven’t shot it a lot and never at game.

I would, if all else was equal (which of course it never is) choose the H&H over any of the other .375 hands down. (Now, I’d like to shoot a .416 Rem...LOL! I have zero gun money at the moment so... go fund me?!) However, after I read you comment about the length of the action...the Ruger is the choice.

Having said that...the answer is ‘get what you want’; because.
