Need to make a decision

I only have one 9mm currently, a P225-A1 Classic with the wood grips. By far my favorite autoloader ever and my current EDC. The thing fits my hand perfectly and is a joy to shoot.

The decision has been made: Due to the current political climate, I'll be picking up a CT-compliant AR once the tax refund is deposited. That one is most likely to become unavailable the before the others.

But that Smith is just soooo pretty and tempting...

The SIG M17 is the worst choice. It will not hold value and like with all big name plastic guns you're paying $200 to $300 for the brand name alone. Please compare prices of SIG, Glock, FNH, H&K,.... to Sarsilmaz products.

I have very specific ideas of what I want a particular firearm to be. Practical and carry firearms are one thing, and collection/heirloom firearms are something else entirely. Just like retro-styled cars, I like something to be as true to its historical roots as possible. I like 1911's that most closely resemble the original Colt Gov't Model; nostalgic .357 Magnum revolvers reminiscent of what state troopers and TV cops used to carry when I was a kid; AR-style rifles that resemble the Colt M16's and M4's from the '80s & '90s. I guess I'd consider myself a bit of a purist when it comes to these.

With that in mind, CT is a really f'ed-up state. In researching any of the AR combinations (i.e., abominations) that would be deemed "legal" by the commies, I see nothing that really appeals to me. Anything remotely close to a traditional configuration (which would be "pre-ban" here) would set me back about 2 grand or more, something I'm not willing to spend on what would be a $800 run-of-the-mill AR configuration in any free state. Screw that. I don't want or need one that badly. The only reason I'm considering it is because stricter bans are coming and buying one may become all but impossible. Maybe it's just not in the cards, until I move out of state.

So, I'm probably looking at either the Colt 1911 or the Smith. Leaning toward the 1911 since I don't already have one. Every once in a while a nice pre-lock Smith will show up but blued examples are proving rare and don't stick around for long in the used case.

The problem with AR's is that once you get one you'll want more. They seem to multiply. I started with 556 then built a 300 BO. Now I have three 300 BO, three 6.5 Grendels and three 6x45's. Almost forgot, I have a Mini 14 also. As far as the AR's go it kind of depends on what you want to use it for as to caliber choice.

if i were younger, in the gun acquiring mode and dealing with unfree state rules i would get: handgun, ruger blackhawk convertible single action revolver in either 45lc/acp or 357/38/9, depending on which semiauto pistol caliber you prefer. singles are great gobs of slower paced fun. long gun, henry lever action rifle in 223/5.56 or 357/38. old school, well proven “assault rifle” of a prior era that, like revolvers, fly under the political commissariat’s radar. i would opt for the new henry side gate loading levers that look particularly worthy, though caliber choice is limited now.

AR. Visited my local store today and the variety is staggering. Fun, SD, whatever, an AR fills many roles.
Also, it will be the first on the ban list.

Well, I went to the LGS the other day and looked at the offerings for CT-Legal A/R's and was not impressed. I really can't legally own anything with the combination of features I want, unless I qualify for a pre-ban and want to spend 2 grand on an 800 dollar gun. No thanks. I'll wait until I can move to a free state, I don't want or need one that badly. I'm more of a handgun guy anyway.

However, I did come home with a nice new Wiley Clapp Gov't model. Took that to the range on Sunday and slung a few projectiles downrange. Very, very satisfied with this purchase!

Nice choice! It took me forever to come around to 1911’s. They never fit my hands correctly. Once I found grips that fit.....better, I absolutely love them. AR’s are fun. They have their place. Many places actually. And I do agree everyone should own one. But a 1911....They are “America”.
