I am going to start to reload for my 454. Presently I have all RCBS dies and wonder if they will be best for the 454. I have a Freedom Arms 454 and they sell dies but I wonder if they are really better or just repackaged from some other maker. Input from you'll is appreciated.

I like the redding competition pro dies, I believe they offer them in 454/45. Expensive but quite nice.

Normal dies are pretty good too though- I'd say you'd be pretty happy with RCBS if that's what you know and love.

I have both Lee and RCBS. Both work fine for my Ruger SRH. I honestly like the Lee better because I single stage the .454 and the o-ring friction lock on the Lee easier than adjusting a set screw.

I used to use RCBS dies exclusively. Then I bought some high end competition dies. Lately I've purchased some lee dies and think they are just as good and they come with a shell holder for less. In 454, 460, and 500 I have rcbs so i can't say for those specific dies but I do like the lee sets I have.

I also use lee dies for 454, no problems. I have no complaints, i usually get locking nuts so i can set them up how i want them and only adjust if something changes.

Buy features, not the color of the box.

-Loading lead? You'll want a Lyman M-Die, and I don't like Lee's post-sizing crimper on lead.
-Playing with COAL? You'll want a micro-seater.
-Loading flat-base lead? I like a sleeved seater, like Hornady's (and you can add a micro stem).
-Roll crimping? Anyone will do.
-Just want to spend your money so they kids won't waste it? Maybe Whidden will make a die set for you. :D

I use Lee for most Pistol, and buy specific features for the Rifles.

When in doubt, buy RCBS for the best Customer Service on the planet.
