Brass Knuckles Or Cane Guns?

When you cap a back powder non cartridge weapon it becomes a "firearm" I believe if not federally most everywhere else. A pneumatic cane gun ( or cane sword) still would not pass TSA muster nor any security screen anywhere. . I just came back from a month long trip to Mexico and felt protected by my stock cane at 73 with bad knees. I would take a firearm from any one who got to close if I had too and am ruthless and explosive. Lastly if one wanted to create on say a Form 1 a licensed Cane gun, I strongly recommend going .410 SG ! keep the bore full length to handle and use the new .410 handgun ammo ! Just check your state laws before carrying after you get your stamp.

So cane guns were used to poach? What critters?

When I was a young boy in Marietta Ga. I had a great uncle Anderson who had "the largest gun collection in the Old South" advertised as such in his Hotel outside Atlanta. It burned down in 40s but some stuff was saved among it was a cane gun , it was in .410 I think, I never shot it it was in the uncles home as a defense weapon he used on his walks and I was young at the time . I heard stories he used it on dogs that would come out and "attack" him on walks around town. I do not know what happened to it, I got my hands on some interesting things at about 14 when he passed away but not that !

Sort of. Friedkin shot (and killed) Starrett with a cane gun in The Durango Kid (re-named Six-Gun Law).

And they were used alot in Sherlock Holmes novels

I don't think brass knuckles are very practical except for sucker-punching. In order to employ them effectively, the user must have a skill set as a striker- putting them in/on your hand does no good if you have no game at landing punches. Also, you can't really use your hand for anything else like grappling when you are holding them.

For the folks that say it’s an NFA item, I realize this and the whole point would be to have it removed from that classification. In Texas we have both concealed, and open carry, but most businesses put the appropriate state promulgated signage to prevent open carry in their business. A cane gun would be a concealed weapon and besides, if they are licensed to conceal, would you have a problem with a person so permitted to carry one?

in Texas open and concealed, the so called 30.06 and 30.07 signs apply to handguns.

AOW’s may or may not be a handgun.

In Texas the LTC is only needed for handguns. Anyone over the age of 18 and who can legally own a gun can legally open or conceal carry all other firearms. Except in those areas that forbid all forms of firearms though.

AOW’s are NFA items so one better be carrying their Tax stamp with them. if they are leaving the state, then they better have an approved 5320.20 form approved!

5320.20 is not required for AOW's.

Texas Penal Code Chapter 46 Sec. 46.01 DEFINITIONS does not define AOW's, and section Sec. 46.05 PROHIBITED WEAPONS does not speak to them either. Regardless, 45.06 does not require you to carry your stamp, or even proof of registration.

MikeInOr is right. You dont want things to look sketchy, even if you are totally trustworthy and law abiding

Just take a pice of advice do not play with a Texas, LA, MS or FL LEO if they see anything that even looks illegal you will find yourself parked on the side of the road or in the road face down in cuffs waiting for the dog to get there. Way to much drug traffic to play stupid on these roads. Then you do not have to worry about any stadiums for a long time, next season is predicted for 2022.

If you want to carry a cane for defense go take a defensive cane course. I have seen what a stout cane can do in the hands of a trained person. A bunch of trained people carry a cane just for defense.
