4 of my favorite knives.

I have more knives than I can shake a stick at. I have some cheap pocket knives I keep in places like the coffee table drawer, or in the ash tray of the truck to do things like open dip cans, open mail, etc., and I keep box cutters in the shop and garage for other random uses. These knives get used daily, but don't get used for anything that really matters, and need not be kept highly sharpened- of course, I just change the blades on the box cutters when they get dull. My "carry" knives are either my Emerson commander (kept in a pocket) or my Buck 110 automatic (sheathed on my belt). Depending on what I'm wearing depends on which one I'm carrying- both are kept very sharp and are more than adequate as edged weapons if the need arises. For something to keep in my pocket when I'm going to a friend's house or something of that nature (need a knife but not an edged weapon) I carry a Case barlow type knife. My normal hunting and "work" knife is a well-honed Case hammerhead, worn on my belt.

That Buck Vanguard is an outstanding design.

Cabelas had/has them in their Alaskan Guide series, with S30V blades and rosewood handles. I like the steel and the wood, though I am suspicious it may be rosewood laminate. Still I love the color

I am pleased it is an American made knife (do have to wonder what forest in the continental US has Rosewood trees growing) and it is a well designed knife. The handle has complex contours, fits my hand well, and is comfortable. The blade is hollow ground, and cuts meat well.

What's not to like?

It’s very light. The 110 light is the reiteration of it. Much easier to find. My 426 I got in a “lot” of old knives I bought. It had a broke blade and I returned it to buck and they replaced the blade. I’ve carried it afield almost every time I’ve hunted since I got it.
