Is SIG not making .40 cal pistols anymore?

There's enough .40's in circulation that I doubt you'll ever have problems finding ammo, but for new pistol sales its a mostly dead cartridge.

Nothing wrong with it - I've got several of them (2 2011s, an SW99, an SD40, a Glock 22, and a Stoeger Cougar), but 9mm just makes more sense.

I guess pretty much anything with more recoil than 9mm is uncontrollable and painful in the dainty hands of the modern shooter.

That is some funny truth...sad as well. Wouldn't be so easy for them to take a selfie while shooting a more robust caliber.
...but i refuse to complain since a lot of .40 handguns are being sold off cheap. The last 2 gun shows netted me a pair of discount priced .40 S&W 3rd Gens., one of them being a mint condition early 1/200 Performance Center model for cheap.
I've noticed a lot of private sellers at gun shows wanting to unload .40 ammo. Keep it coming!

Just get a 10mm. Never got into .40s and never really wanted to. Talk about a comeback, 10mm is on the rise again...
Yes get a 10...Especially a 610 that will handle the 'hot' loads (nothing like the modern neutered commercial 10mm ammo), and of course, with moonclips one can shoot .40 as well.
I shoot/carry both 10 and .40 depending on season, but started shooting .40 a lot more after getting conversion barrels for the G40 and G29. Made trips to the range much cheaper and last longer than 20 minutes.

At least for now....we'll see if it holds up over the long run.
🙄

Well, let’s see ….

The 10mm AUTO cartridge was first introduced by Norma in 1983, declared dead in 1987, and then again in 1990 when the .40S&W was born, and through the 1990s it was still presumed dead and buried until circa 2003, at which point The 10mm’s Great Resurgence began with Double Tap and Texas Ammo Company offering full-throttle loads in various bullet-weights and, with the bandwagon started, that Resurgence continues today (2023) in the form of more companies and manufacturers offering 10mm guns and real 10mm factory ammo than ever before in the round’s existence.

So doing some basic math here, …. that’s a solid 40 year run for a cartridge that’s been officially declared dead more times than Count Dracula.

During the time when folks were running away from the .40, I was able to pick up a brand new FNS-40 for $300 plus tax/ship, just because .40’s weren’t selling. I had gotten out of the .40 game, but couldn’t resist that. Great gun that I enjoy. My only .40.
My son and I both just got the an FNS-40C for christmas. Same price at the local pawn shop. We just took them to the range Tuesday and are very happy with them.

.40 is my favorite by far. My dad also prefers them over a 9mm and a .45. I was enjoying picking them up used (XD40, P229 and P226 for nearly half the cost of the same 9mm) when the market on .40's was dropping, but I started switching over most of my new purchases to 9mm due to ammo cost. I now have way more 9mm pistols, but still prefer the .40.

The caliber that never made sense to me was the .357 Sig. But to each their own.

I didn't know FN was still making 40's. I thought Glock & S&W were the only ones still putting them out. I've always liked .40. I only own 2 of them. One is an old Ruger P944. The other is a S&W M&P 2.0 40 Compact. When I bought the S&W the new 9mm guns were selling for about $550. I got it for $350. I am another that is shooting more 9mm now because of ammo cost & I have been carrying a Micro 9. So I have been shooting it.

The ones we got were used. But not very much.

I own several 40s&w firearms. It's my favorite caliber, and it's many other's favorite caliber as well. It's not going anywhere. It's a matter of time before the powers that be convince the followers and steeple that 40s&w is cool again. Right now they've been convinced to hate 40s&w and to buy 10mm instead.

They will complain that 40s&w is too snappy, but then will rave about 10mm which is typically almost always loaded to be 40s&w in a 10mm cartilage in the overwhelming majority of commercial self-defense ammo. Even for the small percentage of reloaders and boutique commercial loads, they will be even more snappy than 40s&w, yet no one whines and complains about recoil when threads and the topic comes up (funny how that works). They only complain about it in 40s&w because they're followers who are regurgitating talking points. Buy a G26, G19, or G17 sized handgun in 10mm to carry for self-defense and everyone applauds and nods their heads in approvement. Mention 40s&w, and everyone will pontificate with contempt about how much they dislike or will never buy 40s&w when 10mm is just as or more "snappy" than 40s&w, will have follow up shots that are simular or worse than 40s&w, but will cost more per round than 40s&w, be in a larger diameter gun than 40s&w, and basically have all the same cons and non of the pros vs 40s&w.

There are millions of 40s&w handguns still in circulation. There are A LOT of people who still love the round. There will always be ammo for it.
I will be keeping my Stoeger Cougar in .40. Since its a very heavy all-metal piece the recoil ferls like that of a 9mm polymer pistol.

I think if you buy a P320 FCU, you can order most cartridge kits for 40 and 357 SIG.
Yup -- that's what I did: a Tinkertoy build with the FCU, an FXG frame, a .357 SIG kit, and a .40 barrel. It's my first .40 -- actually my first .357 too. Here it is with the .357 barrel in it.

A lot of truth here. If female cops shot the .40 better there’s little chance LE would have migrated back to 9mm.
Only 13% of all LE in the US are women. A good chunk of male officers can't shoot worth a damn. Taking a cop to the range to qual is like taking a 4 year old to the dentist. They'll kick and scream. The majority reason why agencies are going back to 9mm is training costs, period. The bean counters want to spend as little time as possible on ammo and hours for training. 9mm is the bare minimum standard for duty ammo. You can get people qualed on 9mm faster than .40 S&W or .45 ACP.

That's because police admins want more to see more classroom time spent on sensitivity training and working through "de-escalation" scenarios. 🙄

Range time spent running realistic "move-n-shoot" drills and having serious discussions on street-survival sounds too much like "warrior training."

Can't have that ... 🤫

I suspect that is a sort of truth. It is not just female cops that are easier to train on 9mm. It is easier and cheaper to use 9 mm than 40. That is driving the trend away from 40.

Women can be taught to shoot 40 just as well as men. But a lot of people of all genders in urban areas just are not all that interested in shooting skills these days, and that includes those who become cops.

Even back in the day, bean counters didn't want to spend money. Prior to LEOSA passing, FL required you to qualify ONCE in your entire career. Some po'dunk agencies were like that.

I reload for my 40 caliber sigs. It’s a wonderful, powerful pistol round if you don’t mind the recoil. One of the reasons so many people don’t like it is the recoil. If you load it properly , it hits much harder than the nine and offers more penetration than 45. I am also shoot and reload 45 super, 10 mm, and 38 super.
