Would You Schofield?

I only paid about $100.00 for mine.

Of course it shoot's BB's, using CO2 cartridges, and it makes a good fidgit spinner at time too. ;)

I'd love one, but a good SAA clone costs half that price around here.
I'll stick to my SAAs.
I was thinking the same thing! SAA Clones are so much fun! and I love them. But you know Billy the Kid swear by his Schofeild! Just Meat & Potatoes

Model 3's are very cool, I like that I could buy a modern one and shoot .45 Colt in it, but if I want a top break in .45 I'll get a Webley instead and reload the .455 or .45 ACP. They're cheaper and are double action.

IMO the price is reasonable. However, I highly recommend handling it first. My father bought an Uberti replica of a S&W No.3 and handling it cured me of any desire for one, for two reasons. First, I didn't like how it balanced. Second and more importantly, the sights are horrendous, even by fixed sight revolver standards.

Yeah… Balance was funny. but that hammer look MEAN!

I had one of these a while back and I never could get used to it no matter how hard I tried so I sold it.
I didn’t understand why it’s 2x the cost of their SAA clone. The quality is exactly the same, finish - and such.

I’m on the fence and don’t want to hate it for $1200. They do have a Stainless unfired New Frontier Colt .357 that’s been sitting there for 4 months $2,000 with box and paper. I’ll see if they will do $1750

I don’t know all that is involved in the production of a SAA vs. Schofield but the only similarity between the two in this Layman’s eyes are that they are single action. I think comparing the two is apples vs. oranges, I wouldn’t get to wrapped in the weeds around the cost difference between a SAA and a Schofield reproduction.

that true! I bet their was a Uberti run of these coming in the country. I haven’t seen them on the shelves for 2 years. I’ll take a stroll this week around to see who else is getting Scholfeids in. I limited my gun spending to July, So I have to be picky & smart about gun purchases

Do you think $1200 is too much? Have not seen one for a few years. I remember them only being $1050~
I have an Uberti Schofield. I didn't pay that much for mine, but inflation is what it is.

The Schofield, of course, was originally a black powder gun. But if you're going to shoot black powder in your reproduction, you may have a problem.

.45 LC is a longer cartridge than .45 Schofield. So the repro makers, to sell the gun in the commonly available .45 LC, had to lengthen the cylinder. This meant that the gap between the front of the cylinder and the frame, had to be made smaller. This gap is the place where black powder fouling can harmlessly accumulate. So, with a small (or no) gap, BP fouling quickly builds up to the point that it locks up the cylinder. Some people try to overcome this with lots of grease, etc.

If you stick to smokeless powder, you don't have this problem. But the Schofield, nevertheless, is an awkward gun to shoot. I have one because I'm primarily a collector, not a shooter. Otherwise, I would pass on it.

A friend and I bought early ASM Schofields based on a gunzine article.
Error. They were dreadful, the barrels were crooked, would not even pass a range rod.
We went 'round and 'round with the importer and eventually got a partial refund. They gave us the wholesale price but the local dealer had not charged a large transfer fee, so we were only out $20 each. I applied my refund to a SAA reproduction to go with my real Colt.
We weren't the only ones, the debacle almost ruined the importer and ASM is no more.

On the other hand, a club member really likes his pair of 5" Ubertis with carved imitation ivory grips.

I'd schofield if I found a shooter. I wouldn't pay more for a used schofield clone than I would for a new SAA clone though.
