I think our gun rights are about to come under heavy attack.

The shooter was a minor and a prohibited possessor, so it’s hard to use him as an example of the need for new laws. When you add the additional factors that it was a handgun and the shooter was a member of a protected class then it’s not a surprise this one is being memory holed.

I remember in the 70‘s and 80’s when the focus of most gun control efforts was handguns. Handgun Control Inc and the National Coalition to Ban Handguns were the media darlings. Now apparently shooting sprees are perfectly fine as long as they aren’t committed with a magazine-fed rifle. I frequently wonder why that is.

Well, as a point of order, our rights are under heavy and continuous attack by an entrenched minority who generally reject any notion of liberty for ordinary citizens.

People with that sort of disposition will use any media thing they can to push their agenda without regard for the rectitude of that media thing.

They will also decrease or diminish anything that diminishes or dilutes their "message."

There is something of a problem posed by arguing with those who will not engage in good-faith or "fair" or even "truthful" discourse.

The toddler standing in front of the open door of the fridge, over the fragments of a broken bowl, covered in bits of chocolate frosting, insisting that they never touched the cream frosting, nor touched the bowl, and it's actually the spoon's fault is a similar level of frustrating effort.

A couple of thugs throwing down because of how they "was looking" at each other and blasting away and mostly only hitting bystanders does not offer much for THR to touch upon. "Our" skill with firearms, our competence, our liberty to carry are not going to offer much in the way of prevention that can be applied to this.

Thirty five years ago they passed the assault weapons ban. Gone.

We had Ohio senator Howard Metzenbaum roaming the halls of the capitol stating he didn’t care about crime, he just wanted the guns. Gone.

Ohio laws banning CCW? Gone. Replaced with constitutional carry. And Ohio is not the only state to move in our direction.

Daily gloom and doom news stories predicting that CCW will turn America into the Wild West? Gone.

This news story? Wait two weeks and it will be the same. Gone.

We must be vigilant about our 2A rights in case things change. There are occasional battles that are lost and we can’t give up on those instances (Illinois). But right now, it looks like we are winning the war.

Some blue states are going in the opposite direction like mine. 2023 brought us an assault weapon ban and we're criminally negligent if someone breaks into our house and steals a gun that wasn't in a locked container.

Sorry to hear that. While we are doing well overall, this is one of the battles that must not be abandoned. Which state?

I’m not so staunch of a believer that the 2nd amendment isn’t going to dwindle further into obscurity, but I also see that 1 man vs 1 man is a much smaller situation than 1 adult vs a school full of kids, or one kid vs a school full of kids, or even a single adult vs a nightclub. This is a drip of water eroding the rock. The rock will still stand.

Our gun rights are constantly under assault and have been for many years,..

There are a lot of our rights under assault, from both sides and have been for many years.

Makes it easier for them to split us into two groups, for the most part..,

How many of you have heard that the two juvies arrested originally are not the ones that fired the shot that killed the lone fatality, the lady DJ? Now they have arrested a pair of adults and claim that one of them IS the one who fired the shot that killed the DJ.

Connecticut. Ironically says "Constitution state" on our license plates. Home or former home of Colt, Mossberg, Remington Arms, Ruger, Marlin, Winchester and Standard mtg to mention a few. Sandy Hook elementary school shooting resulted in strong anti gun sentiment here. A mother knowing her son was deeply mentally disturbed but highly intelligent allowed him access to her firearms. She was his first victim.

Yes, when have they not been under attack. ? The latest is "red flag" laws with their waivers of due process and allowing a mere Stalinist style denunciation to be considered proof.
50-60 years ago we had the guns, we didn't have the drugs.

50-60 years ago we had the guns, we didn't have the drugs.

I graduated high school in 1956. There were no druggies at. We had heard of heroin and marijuana but that was all. The drug of choice was a quart bottle of bootlegger Shlitz beer. Buck an ice cold bottle. That was all except for 4 roses whisky in pint bottles for more money. A high school kid might come to school with a hangover but never high.

When “O” campaigned in 2008, so many gun owners overlooked the published fact that his only true objective- if elected- was to be a radical new Health Care legislation.

It should have been apparent that such a Huge new bill in Congress would require all of his “political capital”, but instead gun owners listened to “suggestions” from the retail gun industry which wanted to cash in on their anxieties.

The public saw no actual per$onal benefit with any new bans on AR-15s etc vs the glistening, deceptive promises of new health care. $$.

Now that's what I call a glass half full. Believe me, this type of thinking makes life much more pleasant, and probably healthier.
