.380 ACP the Red Haired Stepchild?

Well, if you claim to have all pertinent data for shootings you have in a database, and one of your "sources" publicly challenges you to provide the data sourced to him, and you can't, because the source says they never gave it to you, one might at least question the veracity of the rest of such super secret squirrel data.

Like I said, attempting to acquire such data, through official channels, is difficult and in many cases impossible. And much of that data, often doesn't even include what would be pertinent information, depth of wound tracks, diameter of wound channels, etc., unless the ME was asked specifically for such data ahead of time, (as has been done by some wound ballistics folks, at some agencies).

Folks are free to keep believing in such top secret, non peer reviewed "studies". Thankfully, LE is mostly aware of the nature of them, and concentrates on repeatable testing of a projectile's ability to meet criteria, that continues to be shown to have strong correlations to successful outcomes in field shootings.

I carry a .380 on those days where my attire makes it necessary. My EDC is a Sig P365 60 percent of the time. During summer months it's a S&W60-14 .357 mag or an LCRx38.
This allows me to carry snake shot for copperheads and rattlesnakes we have. For those of you that have never seen what a .380 will do, I submit this; )and Moderators, if this pic is offensive then please accept my apology and delete it. Last year, I had a problem with a coon that could get into my feed no matter how I stored it, even a metal garbage can with the lid chained to the can. I finally set a trap and caught him but even then, he ripped the stake out of the ground and headed for the water. When I shot him with a KahrP380 with 90gr Critical Defense, he was swimming away from me about 10 yards from the bank and only the back of his head out of water. I aimed at his head knowing I'd hit the body and 1 shot did it. I went back to the house and got a grappling hook on so rope and after a few tries, I got him hooked and drug in to the bank. I didn't have my phone and had to walk back home, (this is a 3/4 mile walk one way too) and came back later in the day and took this pic.
The round went in on the opposite side to the exit wound and thru a few
inches of water too. This is the result. I certainly wouldn't want to be shot with one.

Not advocating anything but sometimes, a pic helps put things in perspective for those who've never had the opportunity to observe something first hand. Oh, the rope was to make sure he'd still be there when I got back and not drug into my pond by a snapping turtle.

After all these posts, I'm convinced on one fact:
The 25ACP is the real step-child in the family. The 380 just took a little extra time to mature.
.25acp and .32acp will be forever in the dustbin of "couldabeens".
Both cartridges are held back by the millions of pot metal pre WWII blowback guns with questionable design and questionable metallurgy.
No manufacturer wants to put out a .25acp+P+ for fear of those guns exploding. That means my 40 round Quad stack .25acp BabyDog pistol design is on hold.

Higher velocities, better performance and newer pistol designs won't happen because of those old guns.

I'll settle this.
No it is not the red-haired stepchild, it is in fact the Drunken Trophy Wife!

Like the DTW, .380 will drain your bank account faster than Whoopi Goldberg can suck down a bowl of gnocchi. Have you priced .380 lately? Jeez louise!

Like the DTW, accuracy can be iffy. 9 out of 10 times the DTW's going to hit the garage pulling in. Put me two feet from a blue whale with my little LCP and I'll hit the dolphin in the next pond over.

Like the DTW, the .380 can be difficult to get loaded. Tiny cases, miniscule powder charges, slippery little bullets you'll never find on the garage floor. The DTW simply has a high tolerance level.

Like the DTW, you WANT it to work, but they both make you wonder why you even bothered.

Now that that's settled......

The Trophy Wife
This guy is so sick of his hot trophy wife always asking for money.

So the next time she comes and asks him for some money he says "I'm not giving you any more money until you make some money for yourself."

So the next day he comes home from work and his wife says "I did it. I made money. I made $230.50!"

He says "Wow. How did you do that?"

She says "Easy: Prostitution."

So now he looks kind of perplexed he asks "Who paid 50 cents?"

She says "Everybody!"

.380 ACP.

While the cartridge is a modest performer from a micro pistol, it is not too shabby from a 3.5" barrel.

Not my first choice in a self defense round, but, do enjoy having it, and would not hesitate to use it.

Loaded with Winchester 95 gr. PDX1:

Funny back-story.

Was helping a lady friend find a pistol for her home. She has the smallest hands I've ever seen on an adult human being. Nothing else fit her that was available and appropriate. The FireStorm was "baby bear." At < $300, it was irresistible. By the time we were through, I had also purchased three of them, spread through the family.

If you were not aware, the Firestorm, with its Glock-esque sights and sans trigger lock, was actually an M&P pistol produced for Spain.

Great little pistol.

ROCKET!... Nooooooooo. lol j/k nice shot

just talk to someone who got shot with a 380, or visit one of the many of graves of people who didnt survive.
they're buried next to the ones who catched a 22lr in the wrong spot.

Yet there are tons of people walking around with bullet scars from all manner of calibers.

Weird, I know. I feel very under gunned when I carry only my LCP!!, but alright carrying a CZ 82 with 9 X 18 Makarov. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. LCP II.JPG IMG_1300.JPG

people who have no respect for a certain caliber should ask someone who has been shot with that caliber how they think about the caliber.
That is ridiculous in the extreme.

What does that have to do with self defense?

LCP Max? How does it shoot. I've never tried one.
If you're healthy, it shoots fine, and fairly accurate for what it is. If you have bad arthritis, it sucks. I had 2, and was pretty fond of them, but I reached a point where they were too painful to shoot. They're gone now, and it's really too bad.
