The title is a touch misleading. I only installed a Bisley hammer on my flattop .45 Convertible. But it now carries a bisley hammer and oversized cylinder pin and I’m pretty happy about it. Its far from perfect and any gunsmith worth his salt would not be impressed but this is a daily use revolver and isn’t trying to win any beauty pageant. Learned alot about Ruger Blackhawks in the process. Mostly how much of a b**ch the trigger pin is remove.

The learning curve was to perfectly match the radius of the top rear of the plow handle frame. But thankfully I bought two hammers and can always try again later. But this one will ride for now.

Nice job! I have small hands and my Uberti could benefit me with a Bisley style hammer. I'll have to see if they have anything like that.

Uberti does make a Bisley Style 1873 but no clue about part interchangeability between Ubertis. Lucky for me the Ruger interchangeability is pretty well hashed out what can and can’t be done.

Excellent work, and agreed. Ruger has figured out how to make so many things so much more difficult than they need to be. But regarding the trigger pin, try two things- First check the pin for ridges that prevent it from sliding over the loading gate spring. If there are ridges, chuck the pin up in a drill and work them down with some fine sandpaper. Second, polish the loading gate spring where the pin slides over it.

I recently bought one of those Blackhawk Convertibles and have been working on it quite a bit. Mines a pretty decent shooter.

Let us know if you do anything else to yours, especially if you add a Bisley grip frame

Looks good KT. I would much prefer if the Bisley hammer came stock on Blackhawk’s and Vaqueros. Or for that matter the Montado hammer as well. Not that there’s much difference between the two versions.

I’m not sure if I will. I like the Bisley, and I want a bisley. But I’m looking for a Bisley .454 cal.

What’s your pet load for your Convertible?
