E NEED every Maryland THR user to show up against this bill. We had a good showing last year, but we need to show them that we're twice as serious this year.

More info to come.......

I can probably get a half-day away from school....if I leave at 11:45 I can probably make it there in time if someone saves me a seat.

Thanks Cliff.

Bring a bus load of people if you can.

If you still have your red "Maryland Gun Owners Vote" badge where it. If not, maybe somebody could get some made real quick.

Need to keep this one at the top.

If anybody needs directions or needs ANYTHING to be there, PM me.

That's what they wanted - to limit the amount of time we have to gather opposition.

On a positive note, HB1211, the ccw bill has THIRTY FIVE co-sponsors, and many more promised votes.

At last look, the text was not available online yet. Maybe tonight, or Monday

Y'all know that Frosh voted to ban all guns don'tcha?

He is no friend and wants to dilute out efforts by giving us a 6 day notice on the first volley and he will schedule other related bills later.

i will be there.

Last year we had around 20% of this list respond by testifying on
short notice at the JPR senate hearing in Annapolis on the AW ban.

Senator Frosh is calling these hearings on short notice to slip
something by if he can or by diluting our efforts by spreading
hearings over a number of days. I hope this year many more of you
will join the effort for this Wednesday's hearing and the other
hearings to let him know this won't fly.

A map of the Annapolis state government area can be found at the link:
http://www.mcrkba.org/GovnMap.pdf
In that map, The Miller Senate Building replaces the Old Armory (#12)

Parking is alway a problem in Annapolis. I suggest you park at the
Navy Marine Corp. Memorial Stadium and take the shuttle bus to the
senate office building. You should allow extra time for this trip and
for passing through security.

You should treat this trip like going to the airport -- no weapons of
any kind including the smallest pen knives.

You don't have to over do the dress, but use neat business attire.

If you testify, don't threaten -- not even we'll run you out of
office. Our turn-out will speak for itself in that regard. Simply
and politely speak what you want to say about the facts on the bill
and your opinion. When you introduce your self, you might mention
what district you are from if any of the members of the JPR represent
you. They might even want to talk to you off to the side if you do
and you can use that opportunity to tell them more.

Plan on saying what you want in 1 minute -- you may get more, but that
might be all you get.

It is better to stick to one or two strong points covered deliberately
and rush through a dozen points spoken so quickly that no one can
understand you. Cover your best points first -- that is, after you
say you are opposed to the bill. Also, make a point of saying you had
to take time from work to be there and you have no financial interest
in firearms (if that is the case). You see, most of the proponents
from CeaseFire are paid lobbyiests and your statement will help
distinguish our side from their side.

If you have written testimony, you will need a number of copies -- see
http://www.mcrkba.org/TestifyingInfo.html
for the number needed.

If you plan to testify, you need to sign up an hour before the
session. Sign up sheets will be posted at the JPR committee office.

Be prepared to make this trip again in a few weeks -- we will need as
many as we can get for other gun bill committee hearings.

Geez....I just realized that in my hurry to start this thread, I spelled, "Assault" wrong. Go figure....getting a little dyslexic in my old age I guess.

Continuing my tradition of letter writing....this one to the Sun:

State Senator Frosh demonstrates the lengths to which he and the anti-gun lobby will go to force their agenda upon the lawful firearms owners of Maryland. By scheduling a hearing on less than a week's notice, Senator Frosh and his backers hope to prevent firearms owners from organizing and being able to make an appearance in Annapolis. Furthermore, by spreading hearings on bills out over several days it is the hope that those in opposition to his bill will not be able to take multiple days off from work to testify before the committee, therefore diluting the effect of their testimony against his proposed legislation.

Unlike the paid, professional lobbyists that back Senator Frosh's legislation, those in opposition to his bill are working citizens who must sacrifice personal leave, vacation time or lose wages to make their voices heard.

One year ago, similar bills were heard before the same committee of the legislature and one law enforcement agency after another testified that there were virtually no incidents where a firearm recovered from a crime scene was bought and possessed legally. They further stated that so-called assault weapons were rarely, if ever, used by criminals, standing in direct contradiction to the anti-gun lobby's "1 in 5" assertion. Senator Frosh and company were apparently not listening.

Senator Frosh and his cronies have failed miserably in their responsibilities in protecting the citizens of Maryland from criminals. These bills are feel good pieces of legislation that will do nothing to prevent crime and will only punish law-abiding citizens who must already submit to some of the most stringent regulations in the nation governing firearms ownership.

Does anyone remember how many copies you need if giving written testimony? I am still planning on coming but I thought I would have written testimony ready in case my boys don't hold out long enough.

You will need 20 copies for testimony in the Senate hearings, and 35 copies for testimony in the House.

And of course, a copy for yourself! ;)

Something we should use to remind the Monkeys behind these bills......

Spot77....what if we all printed that graphic out in a convenient "pin to shirt" size?

I was thinking the SAME thing....need some kind of catchy, short text for it.

Something like "Vote RED, Vote Guns!"

something short like that......
