I was thinking today about all the advances in metalurgy over the last hundred years or so. Alluminum, titanium, scandium and other alloys that I can't spell come to mind.
Well, they're all great but what ever happened to plain old steel? Even though I haven't carried my blue 36 in a long time, I still love it! I decided to break out the steel and snap a picture.

Satin chrome plated 19-3, blued 10-7, bright chrome 36 and a blue 36.

OOPS! I was "Editing" when you posted!...the bottom revo's on the four-gun stainless layout are a 625--on the left--and a Performance Center 627 "V-Comp" on the right...the single stainless gun is a 686-4...with a SQUARE butt and old-style extractor!...came that way from the factory...a present-day "Transitional" gun, if you will....mikey357

DHart,

I hate you. (And I mean that in the most positive way.) :D

Very nice wheelguns. How'd you get your hands on a three-inch 686 Plus?

Oh, and here's one of mine...factory nickel over carbon steel, a plain-jane two-inch Model 10.

Hey Marko... I was able to locate a 3" 686 barrel and the Performance Center did a swap with the 4" barrel. THe gun also has night sights, which makes it a pretty cool revo. Here are a couple more "special ones" you might appreciate:

All Pre-Numbered S&W N Frames. Of Note:
5 oclock is the registered magnum
4 oclock is an unfired 38/44 outdoorsman md of 1950,
10 oclock is a customized 38/44 heavy duty target prewar
2 oclock is a first month production heavy duty. Less then 200 serial numbers from the first one!

Peter, it seems you have a hole in your collection. What are you planning to fill it with?

Whatever pre-numbered N frame I find next. I am sort of looking for another registered magnum, but I have a tight budget right now. Maybe another outdoorsman or possibly another heavy duty. I really like the 38 special round for its easy of loading so I will probably get another outdoorsman (pre-war). I have my eye on one for $895, but I think the condition does not warrant the costs. I will have to call and see if I can talk him down.

Here's some in my gallery...

Colt Anaconda
Colt Python
Colt Trooper MKIII
Ruger Redhawk
Ruger Blackhawk .45LC
Ruger Security Six
S&W 629-1
