(I posted this in the "smith/tool" forum, but only got one reply.. Thanks, btw, RCMODEL for your insight! I was hoping for a few more opinions and think it may get a better look out here..) Below the picture I posted what RC had to say, in case ya'll want to agree with him.. Thanks again! (Double crap, I meant to post this in the handguns:general forum) doh.gif

Here's goes again, I just got my first "new" gun, so Im not sure if this is par for the course, or what? But here's my new Walther P22, and there's a thin "hairline" of something on the back area of the barrel.. Looks like rust maybe, but I couldnt get it off with a fingernail, hoopes 9, or a rag so Im bringin it here for you guys.. I wouldnt mind so much if it wasnt staring me in the face whenever the gun is in battery.. It doesnt look like much in the pic, but when the light hits it, it stands out similar to a scratch in new paint.. (but ya cant feel it) Can anyone tell what it is, if it's something I should just live with, or how I may be able to remove it? Thanks for you help.. (You see the sharpie holding the gun.. That's my next thought?)

Looks like brass tracks where somebody rubbed a brass cleaning rod tip on the rough surface.

Mite try leaving Hoppies #9 soak on it overnight.

Or some copper bore solvent.

RC, I left some Hoppes9 on it for a few hours and it didnt budge.. I stroked it with the sharpie and it's covered up for now, but Im sure it'll be back as soon as I wipe the gun.. Any other solvents or cleaners ya think may be able to remove it?

Oh well, at least I found something to stump the THR regulars! :D After some thought and time to chill, I think Im gonna be able to live with the hairline mark.. The sharpie covered it up just about perfectly and it's not exactly an heirloom piece anyway.. ;)

I agree with rc model, it looks like brass. Id scrub it with hoppes and a tooth brush.

Might get a blue pen if it bothers you. They look like a sharpie, and you use them like one too.spray a little WD 40 on after curing for five minutes, wipe with a soft cloth, and you're done.

well, for starters, its not a revolver.

Thanks for the tip Einstein! If you had read the original you'd see I had meant for the post to go in the "general" forum, but made a mistake.. But you probably aready saw it and just wanted to be an ass for the heck of it.. No?
