Hey yall. Haven't been around here in a long time....makin' a livin' and such. Well with the new year comin' up, finally got some extra dough to spend, and need some advice. I found a nice slightly used bare bones Mark II F iron sight Savage today in a local pawn shop. It's basically brand new, with some minor rust spots that can be taken off with some steel wool. The barrel had some residue in it but otherwise looked emmaculate. Asking price was $160 before tax....would I be better off snatching it up or going to Wal-Mart? I'm just looking for a basic .22 bolt action as I don't have one in my collection to use. Plus I was planning on putting a custom camo finish on the stock and such. I have no knowledge of the reputation of Savage's .22 line, as I only own a Savage 110 .243, which has performed flawlessy for me. I need info pertaining to magazine availability if possible. Any reviews or replies would be greatly appreciated.

Savage .22's

They are nice, I have one that the grandkids really like...and so do I.

Maybe you can find a mag on ebay? they used to have them on there...

I have a Wally World Special Savage Mk II non Accu trigger-- it was (and I think still is) $117 new at the World...If you can stomach spending money and dealing with the hassle of purchasing a Wal Mart gun, it is worth the value. Mine fast became my favorite squirrel/cotton tail getter---

Good rifle, cheap to shoot, and mine is a pretty good tack driver...YMMV

Big D I have the FV version of that and like the heavy barrel better, my local Turners Outdoors has them for $239 new.

they are pretty nice but i think a marlin 925 bolt action is better for around the same price. and i would buy a new one they are around 150 new. both are accurate the marlin i like better.

My two month old 93G 22mag just got the scope mounted only to find the holes for the scope mounts were drilled incorrectly. About a degree off as best I can figure and i'm still deciding how I'm gonna fix it ( no way in Hades I plan on sending it back). Any ideas let me know.

The magazine is a batch to get out too.

Big D:

My Savage Mark II F is one of my most accurate .22LRs. I think I paid in the range of $169ish for mine about 2 years ago. It is worth adding a nice scope. This is one rifle that you can ring-out some serious groups.

It would only be worth buying if its the accutrigger version, otherwise the $117 Walmart deal is better. 5 or 10rd Mags are ~$10 online. I sold my walmart one and bought a heavy barrel version.
