Man, I had heard stories but really had no idea how gigantic a Dragoon was... I would probably have to use both hands for the original Walker! Here's a pic of the one I traded for this week next to an 1873 for comparison. The top photo's color sucks cause it's my crappy phone camera, but you get the idea.

I suggest you take a bore light and look down the barrel as you cycle the cylinder through all 6 chambers, and make sure they line up with the barrel. A friend of mine gave me one of those once, and it was absolutely unshootable. NONE of the chambers even came close to aligning safely enough with the barrel to actually try firing a ball through it. I ended up giving it to a photographer who wanted it for a prop gun.

It wasn't an Uberti, I don't think. As I recall, it didn't have a name on it, but it came from Italy.

The "horse pistols" DO be kewl. Hmmm.... me thinks me needs to take a pic of my 3rd Dragoon/Ruger Super Blackhawk (3 screw)/Walker Colt laid next to each other for a comparo... maybe the 686 thrown in for good flavor too.

rondog, I have given the uberti a hard look over and under, dissasembled and cleaned, back together and as far as I can tell it's as solid as a rock and lines up like homeless people at a food drive! Top quality IMO

Ratdog68, I'd love to see some comparison pictures!

Maybe i should change my forum handle to forkdog...

Could be Oyedog for me...darn, I kinda like that too.

We'd be doggin'...

Dragoons are really nice to shoot...powerful, enough weight to absorb the recoil well...natural and easy in the Hand, definitely they are their own thing...very different than the 1860 Models which succeeded them.

Got a Remington recently, seems so light and nimble in comparison. And I guess it is, too..!

Meet mr. Walker

:neener:FOR SIZE COMPARISON THATS AN 1851 ON TOP WITH A 7 1/2 INCH BARREL .44 CAL

BOTTOM WALKER

END OF DISCUSSION

you guys rock

Mykeal: Thanks for the picture, those are great comparisons! Easy to layout the differences in the models of dragoons, for sure.

Strawhat: That's a great picture, too! On that chopped Walker, ever thought of taking off the loading lever and having a 'wells fargo' styled walker? or does that tiny lever actually do something for you? Either way, it looks  !

Scrat: :D that dragoon vs glock video was great! What's the weight/length difference between the original walker and the dragoon? the pictures kind of look like maybe a pound and 2 or 3 inches, but that's pure guestimation.

Thank you. That is an old photo and the lever has been removed. Also a new front sight. I bought the Walker already shortened and on the first shot, the front sight went off galavanting by itself and has not yet returned. So, a silver blade has been let into the barrel but not yet filed to final size. And a new set of grips are being fashioned. Also the front sight on the 1860 has been filed to print POA at 25 yards.

I am contemplating cutting the Pocket Police, but will need another one as the one in the photo is a favorite of mine.

A Mix of goodies

Mix001.jpg

From top to bottom here:

Taurus 85 snub nosed .38
Uberti Walker Colt .44
Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon .44
Pietta 1858 Remington NMA .44
Ruger Super Black Hawk (3 screw) .44mag
Pietta Remington .31 Pocket

That should lend a hand towards gaining a size perspective of them thar horse pistolas.

ratdog68: nice collection! Thanks for the size comparison. now where can we get one of those pocket remmies? :)

Thanks... I'd try Cabela's, Traditions, Dixie Gun Works.

For the sake of not being redundant... I left out the all blued 1858 and the other pocket Remmie. :D

____________

You just perfectly described the late and unlaminted Armi San Marco.
with any luck, your Uberti will probably shoot like this:

I love the comparison of the Glock to the Dragoon, here's what an ASM 2nd Model looks like at nite with 40gr 3f Goex on board.
BPNiteShot-2.jpg
By the way, you guys need to be a little more polite to ASM's, they aren't all junk. Yer gonna hurt my feelings if you keep that up.

Contrats on the nice Dragoon. I have the Uberti Walker which is of course similar and am thinking about getting the Kirst or R&D (Howell) conversion cylinder to double my fun. I don't remember if there are conversion cylinders for the Dragoon.

Nothin' wrong with ASM Joe ... they were one of the first reproduction mfgs. in the early days(cira 1960s thru what was it 2004?)
I myself had to wittle down my collection or Armory and did so by quantities of like mfg.
I only had 3 or 4 ASMs and they were real nice shooters.

Well, I don't know if the one I had was an ASM or what the hell it was, but after looking down the barrel with a bore light while cycling through all the chambers there was NFW I was going to try to shoot that p.o.s. When you can SEE every chamber out of alignment in every direction possible, uh-uh. Not me.
