Ive decided over lots of thinking about it that I am going to get a 40 S&W. The issue is, Im looking at many different pistols and I cant find to many that fit the profile that I want. I want a pistol that is DA. I want an external hammer so I can manually decock it. Thin profile for easy carry. Also a rail on the front for a mounted light. And the most important part is I DONT want a plastic gun. I want a metal frame. The only pistol that fits all these I can find is the SIG SAUER P226. I love that pistol but Im a poor college student and the cost is to almost to great. I was just wondering if there were other pistols that are out there that might fit my profile at an affordable cost.

Dude Sig and thin profile don't go together at all. Hold on I'll be back to this thread with any help I can come up with.

I do love Beretta's. My Father owns one and I like it alot but when I say Thin profile i mine not to wide. The Beretta grip is super bulky and when I try and wear a shoulder holster my arm sticks out and is not very concealable. The Sig grip is thinner. Really so far the race of which pistol has come down to Sig or Beretta.

Easy afforable Sig P226R or 229R or..

Used Sig, 450 - 600

P226R 40cal or a P229R 40cal

I've bought 2 P229 40cals used, can't be happier, as most that sell their guns keep good care of them, they just need the money..

chk here in the classified section of handguns for sale.. seek and ye shall receive

Person to person if seller lives in your area, or FFL to an FFL near you, some include paying freight others split with ya, some don't, but most give good pics of gun, full *both sides, barrel, interior of slide, pic (full view of gun) with *ID number (your can read) so that's what you're buying and what you will, should, receive.. Exchange of emails with real addy's names, phone numbers and ID same as gun in pics.. between you and seller, a must. You have to pay first and payment must be good before seller releases gun, and they do.. and they keep good contact/communications with you that you both have of each other.

Just make sure it's listed as Sig P226"R" or P229R (for railed) and 40cal and you're on your way for half the price of a new one and the one you're buying is already broken in.. especially the DA pull and have a clean SA break..

Sometimes you can negotiate the price down a bit, sometimes not, but most work with ya IF you're really interested in buying because most want to sell asap..

Just remember, if you hang a light on the rail or a laser or combo of both, you're gonna pay higher dollars for the few good holsters that will accept ether gun model with rail and something hanging on it vs if you get a non-railed gun and you just want a laser, then a pair of Crimson Trace laser "grips" is the ticket, as any holster for either model will work fine.. I have the CT grips on both my Sig P229R CT 9mm and on one of my Sig P229 n/r 40cals.. Great grips, great, accurate lasers..

For best ccw, then the P229 wins over the P226 but -

But really "thin" in Sig, you're gonna have to look at the P239 models, thin grips with single stack mags and they do come in 40cal but the round count is around 7+1, can't recall, and most that I have seen are non-railed, but they ccw nice.

Go here to review all 3..

Just saying..

Luck,

Ps.. as mentioned: Beretta's are a good choice as well, 40cal Centurions - smaller in barrel length around 600 or less used and nice-guns, to be sure, and you can find lots of good used buys in the Beretta Forum:

http://www.berettaforum.net/vb/

Vertec models - straight grips like 1911 used, see here 500 or less..

Brigadier models see here:

and like this guy, running an add WTB want to buy.. you can do that

sig p226/p229 you can also look at used sigs. top gun supply sometimes have police trade ins & used sigs. you would just have to have it transferred to a ffl dealer near you. i think ruger might have .40 with a rail. if you forget the rail for now their might be more options. i dont care for polymer either, but you could probably find a used glock .40 fairly cheep. if money is a concern becuse of school you also might want to think about a 9mm. it is a good bit cheeper then the .40, unless you reload. good luck to you & let us know what you end up with.

SIG E2 models. Much smaller grip.

You could get a 1911 in 40 S&W.

Given your criteria, you're going to have shell out the money. Just save up for a few extra months (do you really need that extra beer?) and get the gun you want. Don't forget to get at least three extra mags, holster, mag holders, etc.

Much cheaper than a SIG. You can find a few on the used market right now. Fits most anyone.

In any event. Best of luck with your search.
