GLOCK 34, another tupperware for me!

Nice pistol, I love the one and only Glock I own, a G34. I bought mine in Nov 08, and have used mine in USPSA matches. I changed the front and rear sights to Dawson Precision, other than that, it is box stock. It outshoots all my other 9mm pistols, but it's days may be numbered as my go to match pistol, I have been waiting for an STI Custom 1911 since April. Still I will shoot the G34, it is a really soft shooter, the only centerfire pistol my wife likes.I can use the STI in Limited 10 and the G34 for Production. You should use it in either USPSA or IDPA, they are a blast and really improve ones abilities. The G34 is everything that makes a 9mm Glock a great pistol, only better.

I've had mine for about fifteen years now and really like it.
I finally ground the finger grooves off the front of the frame and my ability to shoot tight groups offhand with the gun improved dramatically.

I use MMC adjustable rear and front, box and bar tritium set up which looks like the original Glock sight picture,

The open port at the front of the slide does nothing for recoil unless you install an aftermarket ported barrel.
The cut is simply there to lighten the slide so the gun will function correctly.
A friend of mine covered his up the black 100mph tape because he felt the hole invites foreign material into the slide recess and he is probably right.

I bought mine specifically because it allows the use of a weapon light without putting the lens out in front of the muzzle where muzzle blast and bumping the light into things can cause the bulb to fail.
Remember, I bought my gun long before LED lights were all the rage.

Yes, there is a grip plug in the back of the grip and a 1911 lanyard loop pinned to it,
I also occasionally use the gun with a pistol leash coil lanyard.

More to add; The G34 is just a bit thicker than a 1911 and otherwise nearly identical in dimensions.
Totally easy to CCW the gun, if you can pack a full size 1911, you can pack one of these and it is a helluva lot more comfortable to carry than the five inch N Frame S&W revolvers some folks advocate.
Much lighter too, even fully loaded.
Oh, fully loaded, it is lighter than a steel frame fully loaded 1911 too.

I got one over the summer as a dedicated IDPA gun to replace the use of my carry G19. After an adjusting period, it is a step up in handling for that purpose, IMO.

I plan to change the sights after the "season" is over; but don't want to change them before then because right now I'm used to looking at the sights as they are. For all the negative reviews on the sights, I figured they would just break off instantly, but mine have survived ~1400 rounds and maintained zero so far.

The trigger; I can't really tell the difference between the 34 and 19 triggers; granted the 19 has about 4x more rounds through it and may be more "broken in".

The window in the slide; I've read repeatedly that the 34 slide and the 17 slide need to weigh exactly the same for proper function, and since the 34 slide is longer they needed to cut some weight somewhere and did it via the window in the slide. Like someone said, it will not reduce muzzle flip by itself. Since the 34 is a game gun, introduction of foreign matter is not really a concern.

The 34 is an interesting pistol to set up for competition. I have a 13# action spring and shoot 147 gr Berrys at about 870 fps. Very soft with a little muzzle flip. The 34 does give you another inch of sight radius.
Unfortunately, because of the trigger I would never conceal carry the pistol.

NY32182 is correct about the 34 slide.

I think the G19 is still the best general purpose 9mm Glock made.
The G34 is more specialized.

I put NY-1 trigger springs in all my Glocks.
This gives a roughly six pound two stage trigger pull with a very distinctive reset that allows for very fast controlled shooting without the worry of trigger spring breakage.
The suggestion that the G34 stock trigger system isn't suitable for concealed carry is just plain goofy.
It is far safer than a tuned 1911 with a 2.5 pound match grade trigger pull carried condition one.

Great guns. I can't say it's the best feeling gun I have, but darn if you can't lay down lead very quickly accurately with it .

The trigger thing is no worry because swapping in a 5.5 lb connector takes 5 minutes and doesn't cost much (possibly nothing as people have them lying around).
