Been watching this deer for some time now. I'm not good at judging would a deer would score, so I'm curious if anyone could give me a ballpark of what this deer is?

In this area anyway a deer's ears are about 14 inches wide at alert. You can sort of figure it from that if you can get a good photo of him with his ears forward.

(Two different deer) Velvet makes the bases look much bigger than they are.....(deer on left) he's between 135-145, one on the right is a little less.

This is what I would say as well. They are not the same deer, but may share DNA. The deer on the left has a sticker on the left side (rt of pic) and the brow tines are different. The velvet make the rack look much heavier than it is. Solid 140's deer,...maybe 150. The one on the left is slightly less and in the 130-140 range after drying.

He's a nice buck.
But he's no way in the 160 class.
Nine points,short brow tines.
He has good width but short over all tines.
I dont even think he can be called a 150.
But he is nice.

yes thats a nice deer,,think it's also the same deer,,the photo on the right is playing a trick hiding the beams tip and the G4 tine together. He might reach 140, nice width, 20" beams have nice length,,around 20" too. Tines are a little short yet but he's at least a three year old,,and if I was hiding in a tree,,he doesn't get a pass this year.
Here's a few pics I got last week,,

Nice deer, he might go 140ish but he ain't making 150. He lacks the tine length and a couple of tines. Definitely a shooter though.

He will look a bit different once the velvet is gone, but still is a nice one. If I were bow hunting I would have to give it my best effort, but I would probably let him pass with a rifle. Just me and how I go about things. As I get older, I seem to enjoy getting the drop on them just as much or more than actually dropping them. I see some really nice ones every season, but usually only take one about every 4 or so years.

Kman,

those are some nice ones as well. I REALLY like that basket rack on the right there, where those tips come so close to touching. My daughter got one off our pace a few years ago that was very similar, one of her best to date. The kicker really made him nice.

Still looking for mine.....

The grandson will be looking for this one shortly...somehow he managed to put the slip on us last season.

i was a B&C scorer in a past life. im not sure where you live (which on pics alone can help determine the score) but im guessing its up north and high up somewhere since its 59 degrees in mid august. that means he is close to full mass in that picture and wont vary as much as one taken lower down for the same time frame. ill wager half the meat (including one whole tenderlin mind you! ;) ) that this deer will go, after drying, from 137-141.

the mass carries through to the tips in velvet and after shedding will mostly remain, save for any early rub off. his only downfall is age and lack of overall tine length. he is blending well through the chest and from what i can see isn't tapering into the hinds all that much. probably a 3.5-4.5 year old? (can you get him to show me some teeth? :) )

nice deer and i would take him if there are plenty of others out there. if not...let him walk and breed.

I agree in the 130- 140 range, after he's been harvested and antlers have dried out of velvet, he may go a little smaller.

Wait another year if it's private land, harvest him if it's public or lot's of competition, cause he probably won't live too long.

This is in a suburban area in NY. It's in an area where there is hardly anyone hunting during archery. Guys do deer drives here during gun, however they have no idea that this one small section of nasty, thick brush is where the bigger deer bed on this property. They don't go anywhere near the spot I know a lot of deer bed. I know this spot like the back of my hand and have scouted through spotting from car, from stand and through cams. I think it is the same deer, and I had him him come in to my decoy at 30 yds broadside last year and let him walk. A lot of deer in this area also cross the road into a patch of woods that you can't hunt in. Last year a deer this size was hit and already a smaller 6 point was hit crossing this spot. I've gambled long enough and think I'll take him if I can this year. This isn't Iowa or Nebraska where you see 130" and up on a regular basis. 95% of guys here would have shot this guy when he had half this rack. He is an absolute trophy for this area. Thanks again to all of the replies and for validating your estimations.Good luck to all of you this year!
