February 2004 Virtual Match for Fellow THR Members

I think that's a great idea PG.

I had a brain fart thinking my scope from the ranch rifle would work on my Redhawk, eye relief. Would a borrowed Reddot sight count acceptable for the scoped handgun class?

Since I am the arms supplier and have had entered 5 new shooters (all using my guns) other than myself during THR matches, can I shoot more than two classes if I bring them with me and they submit scores? As it stands if I bring a non-shooting buddy along he gets to shoot all 4 classes and I only get to shoot two.

I don't know about the renting firearms. All that is is a financial requirement. Then we are saying that you can buy additional entries and you still don't have any new guns.

It is all good. I will just shoot my two entries and get revenge next month!!! [evil laugh] :neener: Maybe I will bring my wife out and have her shoot the extra entry. I hope she wins!

You guys can't believe how hard it is for me to read and understand these posts. Geesh, I am so easily confused.

New shooters welcome

Well, it looks like we will have some new participants this month. Glad to see it.

Welcome Cameron Lamont, MLC, and any other members out there trying this out for the first time. Hope you enjoy it.

Photo_guy, by "completely insane", naturally I mean that in the best possible way. :)

Thanks for your work in putting all this together, complexity or no. Personally, I kinda like complexity. It adds another dimension to things.

Details, Details....

I think there is a small typo. It has +10, +20, +40, +50 and -5 in the lower right table, but the target has a +30 area and not +40.

Yes. That is a typo on the target. Obviously you should cross it out and use +30. I had originally designed the target with the scores on the target table but made a modification and forgot to correct the table. I had put the table there for your use, if needed, it is certainly not required especially since we aren't mailing in targets. {It also says Jan 2004 and we are running it during Feb 2004}

Ok, my turn with the retard helmet:
Are we to intentionally miss to score a 75?

(edit AHA, reading is important!)

So I take it my taking a new shooter still limits me to my own guns. :scrutiny:

With all of the details we discuss, should we consider making a Monthly Match Rules and Results thread and then a general monthly match discussion thread? That way all of the hub-bub and rules clarifications can be made in the discussion area and then any edited changes can be made in the rules-results section.

Another idea. The results can be PMed to the month's coordinator and that way the rules and results section can be locked and the month coordinator can then post them as they come in in the Rules-Results thread.

Or actually, the nice thing was the scores were never mentioned until the end of the month. I thought it used to be an unwritten rule that we really didn't post or discuss scores until they were officially announced. I liked it that way because if some hot shot did really well, I wouldn't get discouraged and not post because I already knew he beat me. For some reason one month someone posted their scores and not too long after it became the virtual match and we just posted them. I think partly it was due to ROTR being so busy and his e-mail wasn't gettting flooded.

I think these are two good ideas and we ought to consider them. Lets make a locked Monthly Rules and Results thread. We can make a new one every month. Maybe even have a locked Yearly Total Thread. Then every month have a Monthly Match General Discussion Thread that is also changed every month. That way the new guys won't be inundated with all of my suggestions and complaints about Photo Guy's oppression and they can just see what the match is and what to do. We can include links to the general discussion thread and also direct them to PM or e-mail the month's coordinator for any additional questions. Look at last months match. It is on its 4th page!!! If I just got to that and read the rules and wanted to post, I might not because I didn't want to go through 4 pages of crap from some dude named El Rojo.

Sadly I just realized the other option, ban me from posting! :uhoh:

Here is my prototype that I just created over in the testing section. Go check it out. http://www.thehighroad.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=28

El Rojo,

I like those suggestions. I was actually thinking along the same lines regarding posting a seperate thread with a FAQ regarding the matches that would be 'floated' and locked with the rules and guidlines. I was planning to open a thread for developing the FAQ rules today but you beat me to it.

Since you will be taking over the matches next month how about we work out the rules together by PM/email and post them when they are complete?

I think a Yearly Totals thread would be nice.

I dunno about the not posting scores until all results are in. True, sometimes it is discouraging when you see a bunch of perfect scores when you are thinking you might not do to well. But, at the same times, I get motivated sometimes by seeing either really good scores (I can shoot that well too, I bet!) or seeing some not so good scores (HaHa!! I can beat them all this time! Muhahahaaa!)

Perhaps maybe a weekly update of the scores recieved that week. That way, the thread will still be organized and formated the same by the mods, but, will still show scores coming in at a steady rate? Perhaps that will be a balance between the two extremes?

Misery loves company fellows.
Some of you must have a backyard, a .22 and two legs to pace it off right?

Things didn't work out as planned, but it's better to be lucky than good. Shot the match cold with my .45 first. Missed the +50 right off the bat, but nailed it on the second shot. No guts no glory. Shot my open blaster on the second target and darn missed the +50 but it squeeked by.

Well this month was much better than last month and much more fun! A fun match.

El Rojo
Hangun Class
1x50
1x30
1x-5
3=75
Glock 27
.40 S&W

El Rojo
Rifle Class - Scoped
3x30
3x-5
6=75
Ruger 10/22
.22 LR

After getting big fat zeros for last month, I was really happy to shoot this month's so well with my Glock 27. As you can see though, I almost threw my last shot into that big black circle!!! I would have been rather mad.

Sorry I wasn't able to shoot my CCW Remington 700 VS in .308 for the Scoped Handgun because I didn't have a friend to go with me.

Next month is mine! Everyone get ready!

I can't wait!

BTW - Really nice shot on that 50 pt zone. Can't get much nicer than that.

I think I made this one too easy. We will likely have several ties at the top of the list to offset the ties at the bottom last month.

FYI: THR Match Rules

A "THR match rules and FAQ" file has been created and posted. This will be the reference guide for all future matches. The match coordinator will post the specific requirements for each month but will reference this post for general rules.

Check it out here THR Match Rules and FAQ post

For those of you who consider last month almost impossible and this month way too easy, consider this. I superimposed last months target over a reasonable reproduction of El Rojo's and Outlander's 3 shots to 75 targets from this month. The hits in the 50 circle would be a 10 last month and the hits in the 30 circle would be well within the 9 ring. Hitting the 50 circle this month is much more difficult than shooting inside the 9 ring last month.

Getting to 75 in 3 hits this month is about the same level of difficulty as holding the 9 ring last month. The only difference is consistency.

There is one critical difference - last month was at 50 ft and this month is at 10 yards. That does make a big difference.
