To give ROTR a little break I have volunteered to try my hand at running the virtual match for this month.
----------------------------------------
No Flyers Allowed – Reverse scoring
â€Pretty good group….except for that one flyerâ€
“This gun shoots well…I just messed up that one shot.â€
I’ll bet you’ve said, or heard, statements like the above while at the range.
Making one good shot is a minor achievement. Making good shots repeatedly is more difficult. Everything needs to go right every time. If you think you can make nice, tight 3 shot groups on a consistent basis going to 5 shot groups can add some humility. There always seems to be that one out of 5 that just doesn’t go where you want it. Sometimes it is the last round, you’ve got 4 good ones then “Doh!†ya mess up the last one. [I hate it when that happens].
This month’s match will test your precision, accuracy, and penalize you severely for that worst shot!
Target:
http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/50yd NRA.pdf
[Same as last month but we will use it at 50ft with handguns.]
Range: 50 feet
Rounds per Target = 10
Targets per Entry = 2 (Total of 20 rounds, 2x10)
Procedure: Targets are to be placed at 50 feet from the shooter. Firearms may be held using two-handed holds but may not be supported. The targets are to be engaged sequentially, 10 rounds, slow fire, for each target. After each ten round target is completed it should be replaced with the next target. A total of two targets will be used per entry.
Scoring: This is where this months contest will be a little different. The point value for each target will be determined by identifying the LOWEST scoring ring broken by ANY shot on the target. Any shot outside the scoring rings (or misses the target completely) will be a ZERO. The numeric score for the target will be this lowest value multiplied by the number of rounds fired (10).
For example: A target with 10, 10,9,9,9,9,8,8,8,7 would be scored as a 7 as the low value. The final target score is 7 * 10 = 70
The final score total will be the average of the worst scores on the 2 targets.
Example: Target 1 = 7 and score = 70, Target 2 = 8 and score = 80, TOTAL SCORE = 75
Note that since this is reverse scoring any shot that breaks the line for a LOWER value ring will be scored as the lower value. (Consider this when deciding which caliber to use!)
Firearms/Classes:
Any handgun without optics may be used this month (with the exception of open class).
Classes:
Standard Rimfire: Any .22LR rimfire handgun with iron sights without any major performance improvements.
Standard Centerfire: Any caliber center fire handgun with iron sights without any major performance improvements.
Open Rimfire: .22lr handguns with major improvements, optics, etc.
Open Centerfire : Centerfire handguns with major improvements, optics, etc.
Entries:
Shooter may enter up to TWO entries this month. One rimfire and one centerfire entry will be accepted per shooter.
Total possible 100-10X
Remember that you score in the LOWER ring when you break the line for this month.
Please post your scores here on this thread with the following information:
THR Member Name –
Low Ring Target1____ Low Ring Target2_____
Average Score ____/100 ___/X
Class --
Weapon --
Caliber –
Also, just for fun, you can report the temperature, wind, snow depth, etc. at the time you shot your targets. Special recognition will go to the “most dedicated†participant.
Be sure to wear ear and eye protection, be careful, and have fun out there..
