What's right with a Taurus?

Value.

Reliable accurate guns at decent prices. My only problem with the three pistols that I own was when I broke a roll pin in the sight of my PT99. The sent it back fixed, and also replaced the recoil spring.

Though many anti Taurus comments have been made on this site I like my Taurus Millenium Pro .40.
During break in after 500 rounds, with a trigger replaced and magazine spring replaced it works prefectly. Very accurate. Last summer concentrated at at 10-20 yard range no issues with function or accuracy.
I have noticed some people here who get unhinged if one thing goes wrong with their new firearm. Expect it. No matter what make, one should run it through its paces. Every firearm has its quirks. Things might malfunction-get it fixed, and move on. I did not give up and I'm pleased but most important I trust it.
I would add- Price.

love my PT1911, changed a few parts just for aesthetics (trigger, hammer, grips). the trigger breaks like a glass rod and the fact that i can absolutely drill a 8x11" steel at 60+ yards every single time, even with tula ammo.

I have a revolver that I like. I like it a lot. Not the fit and finish of a more pricey .357, but a great value.

I owned a semi-auto that was not reliable.

I don't like the Baretta 92, but I would pick a Taurus copy over it due to the frame mounted safety.

Well, I have in the past said some really awful things about Taurus customer service. I have said I observed a friend who was really raked over the coals. I always said I would never own one for that reason....But, they are now making the PT1911 in 9mm and .38 super. A few people who's opinion I respect give them very high marks...so I just may have to eat some crow and give them a try.

I can't speak for their autos, but if their revolvers pass the revolver checkout process, they are about as good as anything else in my book. Yes, I pass on a lot of lemons, so I would not buy one over gunbroker.

Try finding a 3" 5 shot .44 Special in a S&W for $268 these days. This one is nearly as smooth, has decent lockup and is quite accurate. 90% as nice as a S&W 696 for about 30% of the price.

My only experience with Taurus is the PT92. Never experienced a single problem. I like the looks of a lot of their new designs, especially the G2 line of autos. May check'em out eventually.

the only one I own (bought used after passing inspection) is a SHOOTER!
So much so that after my wife shot it, she made an even swap with me for her Ruger SP101. I'm still thinking she got the better end of that deal. The Taurus's trigger pull is lighter by several pounds and slick as glass.

P.S. that group is 15 rounds double action at combat distance (21'), by yours truly, freehand standing, first time I ever fired it. When I say it's a shooter, it's a shooter.

P.S.S. it's been dressed up a bit since then with some Hogue Monogrips, and shoots even sweeter now.

As far as brand new guns are concerned, they shoot well for the money. It seems like if they make it to a thousand rounds trouble free, then they will make it forever.

I can only speak of my experience.
The mid nineties were rough years for me. Divorce, bankruptcy, illness. I lost everything but my truck and clothes . I came to virginia on a wendsday, got a job on thurs and since then have rebuilt a comfortable life. I bought this 605 with my second paycheck here. It has been flawless. Better trigger than some of my other stuff. Second wife of 15 yrs claimed it when I got my Ruger SP101.

This 92 AF came along about a yearr after the 605. Again, lots of rounds, no problems.

Today I got a couple dozen weapons. Some high end CZ's Smiths, Rugers, couple of nice 1911's.

Since retiring I got a dream P/t job in a gun store. I dont bash any model but based on our hard number send backs, 2 Guns that begin with K get sent back a lot more than Taurus.

As Shuvlinoff said,
yep.... lets talk about Glock or high end 1911s or 9 vs 45. If you really want to stir people up announce you carry a .380.

Now that is funny.:)

I am sure that they are trying to improve upon their custoemr service. I had to experience this first hand very recently. I called Taurus CS and ordered a spare stock sights for my Taurus PT709. Guess what they sent it and I received it in less than a week !!! Just sharing my experience. Happy New Year and God Bless :)

Okay, I have a 24/7 PRO DS and I really do like it. I have about 1000 rounds down with 0 problems, not one.

Plus they are inexpensive.

I own a Taurus 357, 4" in stainless, a 22, 9 shot blued, a Rossi 38 snub nose, and a 24/7 pro 45ACP. I like all them and shoot them a lot. very good guns. I have several other guns of various makes, and like them all. Never been a gun snop, just like shooting.

I have owned several Taurus products. My off-duty gun as an LEO was a PT111. Don't fire it much any more but it has never malfunctioned in any way. It's still one of my carry guns. I recently bought a NIB Tracker .22 as a fun gun. No problems with it yet, though its internals needed a lot of cleaning.

I am pretty much a Taurus hater from the gitgo however my grandfather for Christmas gifted me a 24/7 pro and while I would much prefer a Glock or S&W M&P I cannot denie that the 24/7 has been more than servicable. I suppose you could say I was pleasently suprised. I'll try and upload some photos later.

I actually do like some of their revolvers. I just bought an 856. I have owned two 85s at different times.

I've shot my stainless TAURUS 45 for a good 14 years and during that time it has only jammed a hand full of times. Consequently the time it did I got a squib round and had to send it in for repair. Which leads me to the selling point of Taurus. They replaced it (barrel) free of charge no matter if I were the original owner or not. What happened to my TAURUS could have happened to your S&W. But would they have worked on your pistol for free even though you weren't the first to own it? Probably not.

My wife's model 85 has been working great for about a dozen years. Doesn't get fired a lot, but she puts two or three hundred rounds through it a year. That's the only one I have personal experience with, but the experience has been nothing but positive.

i bought a PT1911 a few years ago. it's been dropped on gravel, concrete, in the mud, in a river, has fired over 6,000 rounds, and the only thing that ever went wrong with it was the front sight getting knocked out of line by getting dropped, about half a millimeter. never had a jam, never found an ammo it didn't like.

My PT 709 wouldn't cycle a full mag from day one. Called Taurus the same day. Next day FedEx was at my house with a box. 3 weeks later I had it back.
Now it's my main carry gun. Really nice shooting sub-compact. Terrific short reset trigger and shoots 3'' groups @50' easily.

My PT1911 9mm, not so great. Not what I expect from a 1911. :scrutiny:
I'll probably never buy another Taurus, but on the other hand, I'll never sell my 709.

Q: Why doesn't Taurus have custom builds?
A: Because anything you want, they have a model for.

My PT1911 works just fine. The only things I needed to do was change the grips to something fancier, and change the full length guide rod to a GI style. Nothing wrong with what came on the gun, just personal preference.

I have always been a hard corps Smith & Wesson guy. Over the last few years I have obtained some Taurus revolvers. The Taurus revolvers I have go bang every time the trigger is pulled on live ammo and hit where the barrel is pointed. Also very reasonable in cost.

I really like their snubby 5 shot revolvers in .44 Spl, .45 Colt, .41 Mag, truly awesome pieces. Unfortunately my wife has confiscated the snubby ultra lite in .45 Colt as her own so I am now on the lookout for another (they stopped making them some time ago).
