What do I look for in a quality rifle besides bore? There are several at my Cabelas no higher than $350. I'm not familiar with these, but I'm a fan of the chambering and the bolt. Hear tell they are accurate, seen folks shoot them and they're in love. I wanna be in love too!:)

I think the biggest problems are with linear cracks in the forearm and stock. Check the action of the bolt for smoothness but those are the only two things I can think of right now. I love mine, as always I wish I had bought two when I bought mine for $200. J&G sales has bayonets for them, it is one large pig sticker!!!!

I will look for them.

I paid a bit more than that for one with good wood.

The length of pull is pretty small so mine needs a pad of some sort. trigger is by far the best milsurp trigger Ive ever felt.

GP11 is expensive ammo but super accurate, once you find brass reloading is pretty easy with .30 cal bullets once you do some research.

Just confirm that the bolt, magazine and receiver # match. The stocks are numbered also but it's not unusual to see a replacement.

Check the bore, per specification a new muzzle would measure 7.51mm and shot out at 7.64mm. Out of the seven K's I have owned the largest bore was 7.53.

GRAF has K parts, having a few spares is good.
This is a spare parts kit for a ZFK, several parts are different from the K31.

Are there any good factory loads in 7x57 for hunting? I read that the 7x57 is close in some ways to the 308, and I'm interested in a nice rifle, but not a safe queen. I take care of my weapons, even in the field. Id like to fell a deer with it. Any ideas?

Woah there! 7x57 is something else entirely! That's a mauser cartridge.

You're looking for 7.5 Swiss! (AKA 7.5x55mm)

Don't get one. You will become an addict like I did, and you will start spending time looking for more, and finding more and more excuses to go shooting. Stick with a mosin or something of the like, and avoid the K31 addiction.

But im already enamored, and dont know what to do!!!! I think if I were to buy one, I may be sated.

I bought my first one 3 years ago for $180 and a second one 2 years ago $200. Both are great and a load of fun to shoot. Get one you not regret it.

K31's are awesome guns. I just made up some handloads for mine if you saw my other thread. Only thing to be careful for is your OAL if reloading for it. Otherwise GP-11 or even the Prvi factory shoots great in these rifles. As everyone said, looks for matching parts, good wood condition, a smooth action, and no cracks in the plastic bolt knobs. Also, if you can unscrew the buttplate, you can check for a soldier tag in the back that shows all the information about the soldier who carried that particular rifle. Some guys have even contacted the original owners and/or their family. Have fun choosing!

Question though.

Here's a conundrum I've encountered: why on Earth did I have to come across a Persian Mauser! Anybody have one of those?
