AR pron thread?
I'm in!
DPMS "complete" lower (without buffer tube) from some outfit on Gunbroker because I had money
burning a hole in my pocket, and this seemed like a good idea at the time.
I like it because it works, and it annoys all the people who say DPMS is "second tier."
Raw factory trigger. Wouldn't mind having a $300 trigger in it, but that can wait.
Plus, its a fine example of just how BAD an AR15 trigger really can be.
Magpul CTR buttstock without the rubber buttpad because it was $10 cheaper at the gun show than
the one with the rubber pad, and I didn't know any better at the time. Actually, I have the version
with the rubber pad on another rifle. Neither seems to make any difference one way or the other to
me. I like the way it locks, and I like the loops for attaching slings the way I want.
DSA ZM4 A3 upper with
Magpul carbine-length handguards I bought from a Camp Perry vendor added later.
Got the DSA because they were the first to actually get their production rolling in 2009
after OFIRA (Obama Firearms Industry Relief Act) took effect. Price shipped was $288.18 - which was not bad
considering the gouging that was going on at the time.
I replaced the conventional handguards with Magpul handguards because they look way-cool,
and the
7-slot Magpul rail-segment for the flashlight mounts neatly to the Magpul handguard.
DSA buffer tube kit with buffer and spring, because they had it in the case at the LGS, and I figured I'd give them some business.
Bolt carrier that one of my shooting buddy's left at my house, and forgot about, so I put it to good
use. Bolt that I pulled out of a pile of "just in case" spare parts in one of my boxes of "just in case"
stuff.
Standard pistol grip because I've been shooting standard grips since 1989, and I'm not about to make
a change now.
Standard trigger guard because my fingers are not so fat that the standard guard is an issue for me.
Standard front sight because the USGI sight is tough as nails, and because float tubes, and expensive
gas blocks, and screw-on front sights just add needless expense to this sort of rifle.
Gun-show "Z-5"
(Spanish-made I think) rail-mount flashlight because I'm too cheap to buy a Surefire, and the thing
seems to work pretty darn well so far. I haven't chucked it in the river yet to see if that will kill it.
EOTECH 512 sight because it gets the job done without costing as much as the latest-greatest
AIMPOINT or Trijicon wonder-sight. Plus, I got it "for free" with my Cabela's credit card points.
Magpul 2nd generation rear sight because it has TWO apertures (big/small) and is lightweight and
low-profile.
Bravo Company charging handle, because this is one of the truly useful design improvements for
the AR15. Without question, the "better mousetrap."
One of those things where you go "Wow, how have I done without one of these?!!!"
Medium-size because I don't like my porridge too hot or too cold.
Viking Tactics 2-point sling, because it works, and because I hate single-point nut-racker slings. The
HK hooks let me take it on-and-off the rifle without having to solve a chinese puzzle each time.
Para-cord attachments to the front swivel and the stock because it reduces the click-clatter of hard
attachments.
TAPCO USGI mags, because every good SHTF rifle-on-a-pistol-range rifle should have SOMETHING
from TAPCO on it even if it is just a magazine floorplate.
