My favorite is my S&W 459 that I've had for maybe 17 years. It has never jammed on any type of round to date. It's by no means perfect but I like it and over the years it gets cycled through as a carry gun quite often.
Glock 17L. Does everything it has to do for me, static competitive shooting and home defence. Both the gun and accessories/mags are cheap, good pointability, sufficient accuracy, trigger is ok. I have to get some better sights though.
I can't get enough of these guns. I have one regular 3913, and one 3914, the matte blue version. I'd have no qualms about picking up a couple more of them, that's for sure. Excellent reliability, accuracy, and a great size to boot.
I love em, just look how sexy they are in the picture!
If I had to pick a 9MM I would have to go with a S&W 6906. Mine is pre hi-cap magazine ban so each mag holds 12 rounds. Being alloy frame and stainless slide, weight is no problem and the accuracy and reliability are first class.
My vote has to go with the Browning Hi-Power. It fits my hand perfectly and I can shoot it very well. I'll always prefer the wheel gun but the BHP is it for semi autos. I've been quite impressed with my exposure to the Beretta in the service, it was totaly reliable even when mistreated.
Laugh all you want but it's always given me excellent service. 1.5" threaded bbl, 36 round mags, it's got the 18" screw-on whatchamacallit which reduces the flash down to about the size of a softball (volley ball otherwise). Hooked up a tactical type web sling that's slicker than snot. Have never had anything break on it but then I only put about 300 rounds a year though it, if that, anymore. Bought it the first year they came out during my college days. I could smell that AW ban a mile off.
She bump fires 8-10 rounds per second if I download the powder. That limits the bolt's blowback for quicker cycling but it's not very dependable in that mode and will FTF between bursts. She handles heavier loads without a hiccup at about half that rate of fire. Sad to say I need a whole 8 hour day to handload enough ammo for 10 minutes of fun on my old single stage press. Which is why I don't get out with it much anymore.
I once hit a two inch target at about 40 yards using the sights and a rest. I can keep em all in the black on paper. I don't require sighted shooting to lay waste to a target though. She's pretty sweet.
Besides all that, cops have a tec9-phobia. I kinda the thought of owning something cops drool over confiscating.
The Beretta 92 Brigadier in inox. No recoil to speak of. Apparent lifetime reliability from the examples I have seen (I will not vouch for the military ones having seen how community property is treated in the Navy). Definitely in the top five of the best looking handguns ever made. Cheapest pre-ban mags going.
Personally, I am waiting to get my paws on a 92 GSD before I get into 9mm again.
Started off in high school shooting my Dad's Walther P-38 9mm. That was 30 years ago. Went through the Wonder-nine phase with the S&W 59, 659, 5906, Beretta 92, BHP, CZ-75...got rid of them all. Picked up a used S&W 3913 and loved it. Just the right size for a 9mm.
