Your Favorite Handgun Acquisition of 2021

I ended up with two in 2021. In some ways it's closer than it should be.

The first is this Star BM with it's intact Civil Guard proofmarks which after coming to this site I realized was likely more unusual than I thought and I really like the Colt Commander Size.

The second is this early Sig 229, in .357 sig, that I acquired that also included the .40 barrel and about 250 rnds of .357 Sig ammunition.

Ultimately the Sig wins out just because I've shot it more. I need to get the Star out to the range/woods again.

I didn't buy a lot of handguns in 2021... mostly just a few revolvers. One of them was easily my favorite handgun purchase of the year.

.....

What's your favorite handgun that you got in 2021, and why?

I spent most of '20 and '21 watching for deals and trying to pick up stuff while cash on had still had value*. Ended up buying mostly more revolvers than anything else. Mostly utilitarian stuff. Stuff I can flip and re-home without a qualm.

Most fun is probably a blue 4" Taurus Tracker in .44 Magnum. I conceive of it as step up from my .44 Bulldog, for shooting .44 Special. For .44 Special, it's quite pleasant to shoot.

(Part of the deal was half a thousand of the seller's .44 Magnum handloads, which I'm still not done breaking down. I'm not hurting for handloading components for it.)

Alas, it's sick for the moment. I lost a spring when I had the cylinder apart, and getting a replacement is "interesting".

If there's no picture, it didn't happen. ;)

*What, you think magicing trillions of US FRNs out of the air can be done without consequence?

Got this near mint 1977 6.5" Model 29-2 in early January of 2021, and have been drooling over it ever since! I've put 400 rounds through it this year, and absolutely love it! It has had more ammo through it this past year, than in the previous 44 years of its existence.

The wood box isn't original though, I got that separate from S&W. For a gun this perfect, I was surprised the original box wasn't still with it as well. That was OK with me, the gun itself is all I really wanted, and that allowed me to get a mint Model 29 for less overall cost than one still featuring the original accouterments.

The only one I purchased in 2021.

Glock 21. It went with me to the woods every time this year.
I think I'm on my 5th Glock 21 now. It's not a 1911 or a python or a SA Army but it's a classic in it's own way. I have two of them right now as a matter of fact. One is the compensated version (bought from a family member, might not have have been my first choice). The other one is a gen 3 SF and has the ambi safety which I don't care for since this is supposed to be my 460 Rowland platform and I don't want that button touching my hand when I shoot that beast.

do you feel lucky? well, do you?

A very lightly used 460 S&W Magnum X frame I think they are. Second place is the minty used law enforcement trade in, full size S&W M&P in 45acp. Looks like it was never carried and I doubt it’s had over a couple hundred rounds through it. There’s a couple three others, but these stick out right.

I believe it was also the only gun I bought last year.
