Sometimes my Dillon 550b does not eject the round from crimp die into the chute. It just lays there at the lip of the chute instead of falling down into the cartridge collection bin.

I can't really move the bracket or it will be in the way of the handle. Any ideas.

Ok, it's a totally different press, but when my Dillon SDB does that it is an indicator that I'm being too gentle with the handle. A little more speed and everything works fine. Maybe that will help you out.

Make sure your shell plate is not too loose. And then do not be timid when you manually advance the index sprocket. Your problem should go away.

It looks like the chute is too far from the loader. I had all sorts of similar problems until I bought a strong mount. The spacing and alignment is set at the factory on the mount.
Previously, I tried several solutions including gluing an extension inside the chute. I also ground out a notch for handle clearance. The strong mount is the way to go, if you spin the shell plate too fast, powder can jiggle out of full case 9mm loads.

Kp321 is right, the chute is too far away from the shell plate.
You have something put together wrong.

I have this problem if I get in a hurry and don't wait for the carousel to bottom out before turning it. For what it's worth, my chute is about that far away too.

Since this is THR, this begs the question, do those of you saying the chute is too far actually have a 550b?

The spacing looks okay to me.

Maybe speed up just a bit.
But I also agree with kp that you can get to moving to fast with the indexing, especially when loading bulky powders.

I slid an empty W-W primer sleeve over the top of the back chute 'wing'.
The projection of the end of the slightly angled sleeve toward the press seems to clean up most all chute related problems with pistol cartridges.

I messed with cutting the sleeve at an angle to match the chute, but did not see enough difference to matter.

Works for me, JT

Yes, I have a 550 and my chute is much closer.
This is what mine looks like.

I have always had my 550 on a strong mount, so I had to look up the directions for mounting the chute to the bench.

This is from page 6 of the 550 manual:

Next, mount the cartridge collection bin bracket (#13803) onto your bench, Fig. 2, allowing approximately one-eighth inch clearance between the platform (#13781) and the ejected cartridge chute. Using two screws or bolts, secure the bracket to your bench.

To me it looks like he has more than 1/8 inch there.
Do you have a roller handle installed?
Could that be at a different angle than the standard handle and not letting you move the chute closer?

How often does it happen? Any particular cartridge? I've had that happen from time to time, I usually just use my finger and clear the loaded round.

I have the 550B, but it's mounted directly to my bench. My chute is also closer. It takes very little effort for the round to drop down the chute. No need to turn the spindle fast.
